Default Cough Syrup?

Ok, so I have this cold/flu type thing. I was given an antibiotice and a cough syrup with codeine in it. I'm getting dumping type symptoms after it.

I'm wondering if anyone has had issues with cough syrup afterwards and being sick. I have had a stomach bug/allergies and stuff, but never been this misreable for over a week now.

I'm wondering how much sugar there is in that cough syrup. What is the name?

The other thing is that it might be doing it's thing and loosening up the muck on your chest and that's what's upsetting your tummy.

The only thing I've been able to find is that "PROMETHAZINE-CODEINE "can raise your blood sugar".

Maybe a call to your doc might be in order Kelly. I'm sorry hear you're feeling miserable.

Try asking your doctor if there is diabetic version.

I have a lot of respiratory problems and was normally given guaifenesin with codeine, which I think is similar to what you were proscribed. When I was diagnosed with diabetes, I was switched to a sugar free version(diabetic Tussin C).

That's some serious stuff!

I still haven't been able to find out whether sugar could be the culprit but some of the side effects would make me think of dumping:

From WebMD:
Quote:
Drowsiness, dizziness, headache, lightheadedness, blurred vision, upset stomach, nausea, constipation, increased sweating, or dry mouth may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

thank you ladies. I'm going back tomorrow, I was just wondering of things I can kinda throw at him. Honestly, the side effects are scary. Mix it with ambien at night and you can imagine the odd dreams I have at night.

Phenergan w/codeine is what i take (thru my tube) every night and every morning and i dont dump on it....but maybe that is because it goes in my tube and misses my pouch?

Mine is also two seperate things so it may not be the same at all. This is what they gave you your cough??

hmmmm.

i hope you feel better soon.

Actually you should be able to call the pharmacist and ask some questions over the phone. They will probably know a lot more than the doctors in this case. Plus it will be a lot easier to get a hold of them than your doctor.

Best of luck.
