Unhappy Keeping it a secret?

I was wondering if anyone has tried and succeded at keeping your surgery a secret? I only told my family and my husbands family and the other day I talked to a friend I haven't spoke to in months and a friend of hers( who I barely know) told her, he heard I had the surgery. Now I can't figure out for how the heck he would know. I think I will just start saying its a rumor. Does anyone else feel like this and not want people to know. Tina

Now is someone was to have a dilatation and curettage they would certainly want their right to privacy respected yet they seem to think your wls is their business.

Next time they ask for personal medical history don't acknowledge the question. Just answer it by asking a question of your own......Try something like, "And I heard you had to have your uterus scaped and cleaned from lack of use." Then bat your eyes all innocently like there's nothing wrong with you asking them a personal medical history question.

Good luck.

Nope, I didnt hide it and dont try to. If someone asks what I did I tell them. If they dont ask, I dont volunteer the information either.

i would rather people see me lose weight rapidly knowing I did it through surgery than having someone think I turned to drugs to lose weight... usually people assume the worst about ya. Good luck.

I do a don't ask don't tell. If someone ask I useually will tell them, but sometimes I just say diet and exercise (depends how well I know them). It's all about what your comfortable with. Like Bridget said people assume the worse when you lose weight fast. I wouldn't want people I know to wonder if I had some horrible illness. Most people that I meet don't ask they just say NO WAY that was you, and I say yep it was.

I've told my family so far, and 2 co-workers because they are in the proceedings right now to have it done themselves. I wanted to be able to share the experience with them, and I'm very close to my family so they are a great support system.

I'm normally a pretty shy person, and don't like attention, so I'm not quite sure how I'll react when people I'm not close to start to notice. I guess we'll have to see!

I haven't tried to keep it totally secret. At my reunion my friedn started telling people I had surgery. I looked at her and said," No offense but it is my business and my decision who I tell. I just feel it's not everybodies business." she had the surgery too; She is still ticked off at me, oh well. I told a couple of ex-boyfriends and that is all. One is a nurse so he was understanding. I wasn't there to get judged.

Personally... I tell everyone I know now. I don't hide it. I'm proud of myself, and excited. However.... I would never tell anyone from my past that I haven't seen in ages. High school friends, ex boyfriends, my husbands high school friends or ex girlfriends. Let them eat their hearts out!

Robin, I'm with you. When a conversation occurs about my weight loss, I tell them about my surgery. However, I wouldn't say that I am necessarily proud of it. I usually admit that I hoped to lose the weight another way, but it just didn't work for me. Surgery was my last option and I'm thrilled I had that option.

I also agree with you that I would never tell anyone from my past, especially those whom I felt judged me because of my weight.
