Default Limitations..

I'm 5 weeks out. I've lost 26/27 lbs. I've found that my stomach can handle pretty much everything i've tried, and that almost worries me. Should I be able to "stomach" a few bites of cheese quesadilla? Also, I'm worried about the carb thing. I just got so increadably sick of chewing on meat and cheese, that now I just try to make sure that what I eat has protien in it, even if it has carbs too. (i ate some of a fish taco from rubio's...and that's battered)
I've fought exercise for the last 4 years of my life (since I was 15). I dont know why I thought all the sudden I would become wonder woman and start regularly exercising just because my stomach was altered. I'm worried that the carb and exercise thing are really going to slow me down...Anyone have any ways to really break these patterns..?

It's okay to have some carbs. You still need carbs to function. I had a whole box of movie nachos at 3 weeks out. Can't stand them now. You just never know what you can tolerate. It's trial and error. There are no bad foods, just bad amounts. Everything in moderation. Though the focus is on protein first.

I thought we were not to have any bread until three months out.
It's funny because I don't miss it.

Crispy tortillas are okay, in moderation. It's doughy bread that's off limits until 3 or so months out. The test is if you stick it in water and it turns to glue, you may want to hold off on eating it. Similar results happen in your stomach and you don't want things to get stuck in the opening.

I was eating saltines all the time because I had chronic problems eating in the beginning and found today that I was snacking on them all the time. I am able to eat now and not having the severe problems I was. I 86'd them so fast they are sitting in my trash all crushed up.. LOL

I honestly do not watch my carbs at all...I don't eat enough to worry about them! Your body still needs carbs! My protein bar has 41g in it and that's only 14% of your supposed daily intake of them!

People are so hung up on them, well basically it carbs that make you fat, but GB patients can't eat a huge plate of mashed potatoes, or a big bag of chips...half of a cake anymore...so our carb intake is much lower and more than likely the carbs we do eat are enough for the daily recommendation.

Now if you're eating 10 donuts a day...well I can see why someone would be worried I can't eat bread unless it's toasted, but I can eat a piece of Texas toast garlic bread and be okay....sometimes lol BUT again, that's only 7% of your daily carbs you should have.

Does this make any sense? It's too early in the morning and I haven't had enough coffee yet lol

I was able to stomach a chicken quesadilla just fine at about 5 weeks out. Of course one time I ate a lil too much of it and got sick. As long as you don't eat the whole thing you will be fine.

I lived on saltines and chesse for a few month. you cant eat too much at this stage. Anything you can tolerate is fine at this point. Remember to chew, chew, chew and when you think you are ready to swallow it, chew it some more!!!

Good luck and hang in there, by x-mas, you'll be eating turkey and ham!!

Watch out for that totrtilla.

Jennimaria; i dont think you ate too much of it, tortilla E X P A N D S !!!!!

Stay away from the quesadilla of you are 5 weeks out. Wait until you are 3 months, if thats what your Dr recommends like ours. Stay away what you are supposed to stay away from.

It bothers me to early post ops to try and see what thy can get away with. If your diet outline says NO then dont. Sacrafice a little for the huge reward in the end. The reward is learning beetter eating habits and practicing self control. What are you going to gain from "trying a little bit of chicken quesadilla" How about eat some chicken with melted cheese and perhaps a bit of salsa on top? Just a thought.... follow the rules, its good sense to do so.
