Default How did you know it was time to have your gallbladder removed?

Hello all, I was wondering to those of you that have had your gallbladder removed post-op, how did you know it was your gallbladder? What were your symptoms? I've been feeling really BLAH the last few days, and wondering if it could be my gallbladder...

Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks

I was nauseous almost all the time. For about eight weeks. I did go to the doctor after about two weeks, but he was an idiot and told me it could not be my gall bladder since I was not having pain. After several more weeks, I finally insisted he order an ultrasound of my gall bladder, and sure enough, it was full of stones.

i had my gallbladder removed when i was 19. for weeks leading up to them figuring out what was wrong i would get this AWFUL pain. we're talking go-to-the-ER-crying pain. pain so bad it would make me nauseous.

it took longer than it should have to diagnose b/c the hospital where i am from is notoriously bad. during one trip the doctor tried to tell me that i was just constipated. finally one of the doctors had the presence of mind to do their job (srsly, abdominal pain is something they teach NURSES, let alone docs...if it was an appendix they should have immediately moved on to other things) and did some blood work. then they followed up with an ultrasound a few days later and within the month i had it removed.

I am having mine taken out in two weeks.
and trust me....you will def know when its your gall bladder. It usually, for me, acts up about an hour after eating anything that triggers it...usually anything high in fat content or greasy. The pain starts under the ribcage and then radiates into my back. it is the worst pain imaginable and it sticks around for quite a while. my worst attack was for 3 solid days.
it is hard sometimes to diagnose with bypass patients, from what i understand. we dont neccesarily get stones, but we do get sludge in there. my ultrasound didnt show anything and my surgeon then sent me for a nuclear study called a desida(sp?) scan, which showed a very low function level.
if you think it is your GB, ask your surgeon to look into it. it is not something, once it gets worse, that you want to go thru regularly...
feel well....Michele
