Default Crystal Light makes me dump...

Yes, you've read that right; I can't drink it without my pouch going, "Not in this millennium, doll-face" and I proceed to throw it up. And I've tried ALL the flavors in the CL brand and no luck. Oh and I found out something too: I can't tolerate ANY type of artificial sugars! So, sugar free Nesquik (treat) Nope. Diet Rite (flat) sweetened with splenda...Nope. Any type of food or drink that has artificial sugar in it, I dump.

Oh, here's the fun part: I can tolerate regular sugar...and lots of it and I hate that. I was at a family function (in a restaurant) and I asked for a diet soda and since I was going to be there a long time, I thought that I might as well let it go flat. It went flat and I tasted it. And it tasted sweet. I thought, "Diet soda doesn't taste sweet!" I asked my mom to taste it and she agreed. I asked one of my cousins to taste it too and he said it's regular Coke! So, I decided to drink half the glass and see what happens. NOTHING and this is scary: my pouch was deliriously happy!

So, all you wonderful people, I ask you: how the hell did this happen and what am I going to do about my water situation. I mean, a girl can only drink plain water for so long.

You had soda less than a month post-op? I feel bad for you because you are introducing things to your pouch that you really shouldn't be. I don't know why you didn't chose water over "diet" coke. I barely drink while I am eating out, so I choose water just to have there...incase. And i'm 2 years out.

To each their own I guess. I wouldn't be fcking with my newly rerouted intestines like that though.

I didn't ask for criticism and yes, I'm terrible so I shouldn't have had the surgery. Thanks for making me feel real good. This is one reason why I don't post questions anymore because of this.

I guess the fire and brimstone of people telling me that I'm a terrible pouch person is coming on...damn it.

I definitely understand the need to try different tastes - water has gotten so routine. I'm drinking Crystal light right now.

I don't know about soda - I haven't tried it, but my doctor said that flat soda is OK, so I understand where you're getting that information. I would probably steer clear from the regular pop though.

Other than that - I got nothin'. Have you tried Stevia or Truvia to sweeten as opposed to Splenda? They're made of different stuff than Splenda, and you may tolerate them better.

Axel, thanks for sharing your discoveries. You are normal. I think this forum is for the good, bad and the ugly. Please know there are many of us that take these posts as learning tools and helps to explain to us how we are not all the same in anyway. It takes a lot of courage to write what you know might not be accepted by all. I thank you for your honesty.

Please continue.

Ellie

I think you should totally drink whatever floats your boat.

Good luck.

Default No!!!

Soda, in my book, is a no no!! Especially less than a month post op!!! I know water sucks, but you know what sucks even more? Hurting your new pouch, or even worse, getting back into your old habbits that brought you here in the first place. Give your body some time to heal, then maybe try the Crystal light again!!! I sometimes even put lemon or lime in my water for some "added" flavor!!! How about flavored non-carbonated water? I like the Aquafina Flavor Splash Grape. Just some suggestions. But soda is def not what you should be drinking, and especially a half a glass of regular soda!!

She didn't mean this rudely, just saying that at less than a month post op, why would you have drank a half a glass of regular soda "just to see what would happen"? Not all responses are always gonna be what we want to hear. That is all part of the learning process!!!

You didn't ask for criticism, but unfortantly when you put things out there like that it is kind of shocking to people who have been through this surgery before you. I wouldn't have chosen soda as my drink of choice post-op, especially so early out. Soda vs. water, Hands down would have been the water. You just had major major surgery and had your stomach/intestines rerouted to lose weight.

I'm not saying you are a horrible person, and don't start with the "i'm going to take my ball and leave because I didn't hear what I wanted to hear" stuff.
I just wonder what kind of pre-op classes and stuff you were told before that made you make such a crappy decision so early out.

Have you tried different artificial sweeteners? Do they all make you dump, or just Splenda? Because if it's just Splenda, you could try making Koolaid or something like that with stevia or whatever.

Instead of soda or just plain water, just unsweetened iced tea (decaf), or even use just a little real sugar. Try iced herbal teas. There are all kinds of flavors. Try water with lemon or lime in it. Try fruity protein drinks, like Syntrax Nectar or Isopure. You could have some diluted fruit juice, too, but watch the calories in that.
