Default sooooo tired

I have been soooo tired for the past two weeks. I have been having to stop in a gas station parking lot on my way home from work to take a nap. Yesterday on my way to work I stopped in the mall parking lot and took a hour nap, then finished my drive. Once I got to work I stayed in the car and took a 30 minute nap. My surgeon doesn't do blood work until your 6 months out. I believe it is probably my iron and B12 being low that is making me so tired. What do you think?

I'm still pre-op and have serious iron, zinc and B12 deficiencies. I am exhausted all of the time. I am meeting with my doc today to discuss supplements, so I'm hoping once I start those I have more energy. I'm just nervous now how bad it'll be after the surgery.

I hope you get more energy soon. I know how it feels to feel run down all the time.

Hi Holly, I am very tired too. I am almost 3 weeks out and just think it is part of the process. I did get worried that I was to tired and had my blood work done but everything was ok. I am sure this will pass for us both with time. I am sure someone will post who has a better idea of when it stops.

On suggestion if your tired and despite sleeping continue to be tired and haven't been diagnosed with sleep apena perhaps you should look into that area. Sounds alot like that to me. Anyways, I have bouts of tiredness also and I am out 4 months now. They generally come when I have over done it in the gym. Some days dragging my ass into work is such an effort when this happens. But when I feel tired at home, I don't ignore it. I lay down and sleep as I was instructed by the doctor. We need to listen to our bodies very closely and what it is trying to tell us.

I do have sleep apnea and wear a CPAP machine. I have been taking naps almost daily for the past couple of weeks.

So are you taking your B12 and iron supplements? If I remember correctly you are still fairly early post op yes? I know some people are tired for the first couple of months. I personally never was.

But I would suggest if you think something strange is going on it would not hurt to put a call in to your surgeons office.

Good luck.

How far is your drive?

Hi Holly, It could be iron and B12 that you need or perhaps your thyroid is out of whack. If I were you I would see my fam doc and see if you can get a blood test done sooner than the 6 month mark. I had mine at 3 months and had to increase my thyroid meds, start B12 injections (which do give me extra energy) and now must try to add more iron-rich foods to my diet because my ferritin is borderline low. Hope this helps!

I am 2 months post-op. I didn't have this problem until the past couple of weeks. I do take my supplements and vitamins. However, I was only taking Flintstones for the first two months. I just got my celebrate vitamins and supplements in today.
I drive around 40 minutes one way to work.

Thanks! I think I will call my PCP tomorrow and schedule an appointment. I do have thyroid problems or atleast I did pre-op.

Holly,

Along with not taking WLS appropriate multivitamins, do you take any additional B12? If not, I'd suggest you get some.

Check out GNC and Walmart for a sublingual. 1,000mcg was what was recommended by my hospital from day 1.

The ASBS recommend 1,000mcg a day, page 7 of this document: http://www.asbs.org/Newsite07/resources/bgs_final.pdf . That might be your problem but either way, you won't come to any harm taking it.

Also, I'd suggest you start taking iron. Celebrate and Bariatric Advantage both have iron supplements in the form we tolerate well.
