Question for Migraine sufferers
Does anyone else here use Imitrex injections for migraines? I'm finding that every time I inject myself (unfortunately, more than once a week -- I have chronic migraines ) I get a feeling that feels like dumping. I didn't get this pre-surgery. It's pretty awful, and since I already feel crappy, it's miserable. I can't take the tablets anymore -- they make me throw up.
Anyone else get this?

I have not dealt with this issue but you might try using the TT search function to see if other members have. Good luck to you. Sounds awful.

Sorry I don't take imatrex. I have an electric stimulater in the back of my head that shocks my occipital nerves when I have a migraine. It was part of a investigational study 4 yrs ago when I got it. I was having migraines daily. I have only had one since surgery two months ago.

I don't take injections, but I do get migraines. Lately, I've been waking up with one every morning. I was telling a friend about it and she said her doctor told her to take 600mg of magnesium daily. She also had gastric bypass surgery 3 years ago. She has been taking the magnesium (but they only come in 250 mg, so she takes 3 a day) and since she's been doing that she doesn't have migraines. I started taking it a few days ago and although I'm still getting them, they seem to be less severe. It was getting to the point that I was taking my medicine more than once a day. I take Zomig.
I read somewhere else about the magnesium/migraine connection and I'm hoping this works for me. The Zomig knocks them out and I only need a small amount, but it was getting old. I'm almost a year out from my surgery and I'm not sure what is causing them (maybe the lack of magnesium)? But I thought I'd pass that along to you and anyone else who gets them. They are nasty.

Vikkator, I've been on magnesium for years -- it was worse without it, definitely, but it doesn't stop the migraines. I'm hoping menopause will (I'm in my late 30s, but wishing I'd hit it soon!).
Holly, can you PM me with info about where you were in the study and what doctor you went to and what the specs of the device are? I'll try anything!!
Ardita, thanks. I always forget about the search box!!

i love zomig - esp nasal spray!!! i used to be on topamax and it was a livesaver too. however, i switched to a lower stress job that i enjoy, and for real - i was able to get off the topamax. still use the zomig but i am not constantly migraining like i was before. i would go back on the topamax in a heartbeat if i began to have more than 2-3 migraines a month.
take care.

Maybe I should talk to my doc about Topamax. I think my daughter takes that. It's getting old to be waking up like this every day. My friend told me to give the magnesium a while to kick in, but it's been a week and I'm still waking up in the middle of the night with an awful headache.
I actually had a hysterectomy in 2004 and the resulting menopause didn't help the migraines. In fact, when I tried hormone replacement therapy, it just made them worse. I'm now back on a form of HRT, but it's a cream that I don't use every day. Maybe that's what's causing the problem, but it seems to have just gotten worse lately (the past two months).
I also thought it was due to my alcohol consumption, but I haven't touched that in over two months, and it's actually gotten worse since then.

I used to be on Topomax, but I'm the one person on the planet who actually gained weight on it!! Maybe once I'm down to my goal weight. It didn't help enough to compensate for the weight gain.

I am glad to hear I wasn't the only one to gain weight on TOPOMAX. All my doctors were perplexed as to why I kept gaining. I also found a weight gain connection to Prilosec which makes no sense to my PCP.
