Hey Steve, Brutus...
My weight loss is slow so far. I expect one of those quick drops any day now, but I'm one of the ones who came out of the hospital weighing more than when I went in!
Steve, my weight hasn't really changed that much yet. Apparently, that's not uncommon, especially for us women.
I hear you on the cost of this thing. My insurance is supposed to pay for my psych visit, except for my co-pay, but for some reason they have rejected it! Now I have a bill for $650. (Oh yeah, I'll be fighting it!)
I think it's neat that you are blogging on all this. I'm being a little more discreet for now -- didn't want to deal with judgmental morons early on -- but I love following the trials and successes of others on this journey.

Greetings Terri,
I want you to know I was in the same, slow-moving weight loss boat you are now in.
While everyone else that had surgery the same day, or even after I did was losing 20 to 30 pounds a month- I only lost 15 pounds my first month after my surgery... the second month after my surgery I didn't lose ANYTHING!!!!!!
Talk about being discouraged and depressed....
The third month after my surgery I lost another 15 pounds....
Again, others were losing 20 to 30 pounds still and here I was just poking along...
And I was keeping to my diet program and exercising....
And it wasn't like I didn't have much to lose... I had 150 pounds to lose.
I was convinced I was the exception to the rule... even with surgery I wasn't going to be able to lose weight...
It's just not fair-some people lose a LOT of weight quickly...
The if you are male or under about age 35, it seems you lose weight a LOT faster...
It used to annoy me because the ones that lost the weight quickly would be the same ones, after chortling how much weight they lost, to tell the slow/low users that they shouldn't be paying attention to what others are losing, everyone is different, blah, blah, blah... Yeah...EASY for YOU to say....
After my third month my weight loss was only 9 to 11 pounds a month...again, compared to others that were losing about 15 pounds a month (and they usually had less to lose overall than I did).
You will lose the weight....maybe not as fast or dramatically as others do, but keep to your program, exercise, get your protein and fluid in and you WILL lose the weight.
Granted I've been whining because I'm over a year out and frustrated that I can't lose the last 25 pounds to get to my goal...but I did lost 125 pounds in a year--something that two months AFTER my surgery I was sure would NEVER happen just because my weight loss was so slow and low....

Hi Terri - I am still waiting for my co-pay bills to start coming
I had been lurking for awhile before my surgery and have only recently begun posting. So far, the responses to my posts have been informational and supportive. I always enjoy your posts; you are also so supportive and "up"; kind of like a TT cheerleader! Please keep posting!
I, too, enjoy following the journeys of others on this forum; any time I need some suggestions/info/understanding I know where to come!

I lost around 20 in the first 2 1/2 weeks post op, then stopped. Nothing. I'm almost a month out so I am stalled for now.
I can't get my protein anywhere near what they say it should be, so I am sure that isn't helping me lose.
Anyone else struggling with protein?

I'm almost 2 weeks out and I cannot get my protein in. I've lost about 17 pounds and for the last 2 days I've stayed the same, which is ok, I'm not worried. But I decided to start eating cottage cheese and refried beans and cheese due to the fact that I've been SO TIRED. Seriously, I was sleeping like 18 hours out of the day. Since I've started eating actual food I've been more awake.

I'm so glad to read that I am not the only one stalling. I gained 8 pounds during my surgery (from the fluids, I'm sure) and I have lost 16 since the day I came back from the hospital. I guess that means I've lost 8 real pounds, since 8 of it was fluid retention. I am right at 2 weeks out (10/26 was my surgery date). I have stalled for four days now. I was laying awake worrying about that, which is probably stupid. My greatest fear is and has been the entire time pre-op that I would not lose, that this would somehow be yet another failed attempt at weight loss and that my body would freeze up and not lose, yet again, so the stalling worries me. I'm sure it is normal and, as usual, I come on and read the posts here and I feel better. I would probably be a basket case without this forum! I need to not worry...hope there will come a day when I will not worry any more.
I think I overdid it Saturday. I went to the county fair with my son and a couple of friends. I only rode the very slow, single ferris wheel. However, I was on my feet for most of the day and did a lot of walking, compared to what I have been doing. I felt fine while I was there, but have felt weak and tired since. I tried to take it easy Sunday, but I still felt so tired and weak. Tried to walk a little yesterday, but my body said no no no. I feel heavy, achy, and spent. I will try to take it easy tomorrow. Don't know why I am up now. I just woke up and can't go back to sleep (it is after 2:00 a.m.!).
Hope all my fellow October folks are doing so very well! : - )
-Sam

Did the refried beans sit well with you? I love refried beans, but I have been afraid to try some because they have a lot of carbs. I had some egg yesterday (my first) and I survived that with no problems. Before that, cottage cheese and yogurt were my first solid foods (Saturday and Sunday). Trying to venture over into the soft solids zone very s-l-o-w-l-y.

Refried beans are packed with fiber. You subtract the fiber count from the carb count and then you have an accurate carb count.
