Unhappy marginal ulcer??

Over last few days I've been unable to get in more than 2 bites of soft solids, or more than just sips of fluids. Also have a a sharp pain just left of my incision (RNY) made worse w/ bending or with touching it (feels hot and tender). But nothing looks red or swollen on my skin. No fever, chills.

Today's thinking of the bariatric staff is that I may have an ulcer, so I'm on carafate to hopefully relieve symptoms. (Already had a stricture at about 5 wks out. ) If I'm no better by the end of the week, will have another EGD to take a peak.

Any thoughts? Anyone else get a marginal ulcer post op?

It's a bit discouraging 'cuz I was really doing well with advancing my diet, exercising, even had started to run.........

Red face Don't Get Discouraged

Colleen:

Please don't get discouraged. Ulcers can happen for a variety of reasons. From what I've heard, they heal pretty quickly. You may want to review your diet recently. Perhaps there's something you've eaten that might have overly irritated your pouch. I know that when I drink too many caffeinated drinks in one day, my pouch feels irritated. So I cut back and the irritation goes away. My pouch also feels irritated if I take more than one or two doses of Ibuprofen.

Hopefully between the Carafate and possibly restructuring your diet, your symptoms will resolve.

I lost my appetite for anything, including water, about 7-8 weeks out. I mean, I could not stand the smell of anything! My surgeon gave 2 extra pills to take, Reglan & Aciphex and it totally worked. It was amazing how quickly I felt better. Possibly ask your surgeon about these meds? Good luck and hang in there. I'm sure this will pass.

Isn't Dr. Callery great at diagnosing our problems? He has helped me out so much and is a very worried and concerned about our well-being. I know he is watching me like a hawk and I am over a year out. I am glad he was able to get you the meds. you needed and they worked.

Thanks, ladies! Pain is better on carafate, but still cannot eat anything. So, EGD first thing Monaday morning. I'm hoping whatever is found, we fix quickly. I feels like I could just blow over from taking just fluids. Bet even with very little intake, my wt is stable....no loss. Weird.

Thanks, again!

Dale,

I love Dr Callery, he has given me the start of a new life. But actually, it was Kelly. She really got mad.....well......upset, that I didn't call sooner when I was having that problem. She was so sweet. They're both so wonderful and I'll never be able to thank them enough.
