No energy, feeling dizzy a lot
I've been feeling pretty ok at times, then whammo I feel like I'm going to keel over. I went to church yesterday after drinking a few sips of straight grape juice. Didn't bug me before, but that time, I thought I was going to die. I was so embarrassed because several people asked if I was ok. I finally ended up going into the prayer room and lying down during the sermon.
I can't figure out if this is normal for after surgery or not. I've got a UTI, and am on antibiotics for it, but sheesh. I walk for even a few minutes and I'm sweating, light headed, feeling shaky and am pale as a sheet. I thought I was going to pass out at the gym on Friday. I was on the treadmill for 9 minutes. I was walking slowly too. I'm actually at the public library right now, cause they have AC and it's hot and humid out today (ok, hot and humid for San Diego anyway).
Tell me this will get better!

Hey lil lady! Its normal. You have to remember that your body is trippin' right now because it is not use to receiving all the nutrients and fluids it got pre operatively. Its all good, just slow down a little. You have that UTI, not uncommon figurinf lack of fluids and havint the catheter in the hospital.... so your body is not getting the nutrients and its fighting an infection... you poor thing. Just sip sip sip, perhaps give yourself a rest with treadmill walking until your infection has cleared up.
Welcome to the other side lil lady......

Nancy,
This is perfectly normal, and grape juice, still makes me ill. I have to dilute it half water half juice. Bridget is right, relax until you get on your feet, you are only two weeks post op, you don't have to do the tread mill. You can walk later in the evening even if only a few minutes out in the back yard, or half a block. Your body is in complete shock, and the ketosis is in full bloom, meaning you are burning fat 24 hours a day, 7 dyas a week, your energy is all going to that.
I feel week and dizzy alot even 16 months out, but then again I felt week and dizzy every moment of my life before surgery. In a few months your body will get used to it and the trauma will lessen the shock will wear off, and you will return to normal.
If you have other diseases, then of course weight loss will ease those symptoms, but will not cure them. So good luck honey, and take it easy, just remember to sip, sip, sip, and walk in the evening when it is cool, forget the gym for now.

Hi Nancy,
I remember that everything changed from day to day. I could drink or eat something one day and the next it would go right through me. You need to give yourself a break until your body heals more. Even though you had lap your body still went through a major rearrangement on the inside. I had an open but didn't start walking more that just a few feet at a time until around a month out. Doctor thinks I'm doing fine so relax.

Carry around a light snack to help with the dizziness. With such little food intake, the blood sugar drops and can make you weak and shaky. Also, the blood pressure drops rather easily and you have to remember to take it slow until you're further along and can get more food in.

If I dont get my protein or take my chewable multivitamins everyday, by the afternoon I feel like crap and I'm usually kinda pale and weak. Are you getting enough protein and taking your vitamins? Dont panic, youll do just fine, give it some time and itll get better every day

Holly,
I'm taking the vitamins every day (er, mostly anyway). As for protein, I'm having a hard time. I am ok with very cooked veggies, but I feel yucky with any kind of meat. The protein shakes I bought don't go down well. I'm trying to be easy with myself, and yesterday managed to eat some refried beans -- but way overdid it, and OMG did that hurt. My husband made dinner with peas and carrots, and stuffing with chicken mixed in. I was able to eat that with no problems. Hurrah. Cottage cheese works good, but regular cheese tastes awful. Ok so enough whining already, I've lost a lot of weight, just hate feeling woozy all the time.

What you are going through is normal. I experienced that, and still do. I am 3-months post-op. You never know exactly what is going to trigger it, but you do feel like you are dying when it happens. The only thing to do is to wait itout, it will pass.

Have you tried fish for protein? I find its the easiest of all the meats for me to eat. Im on vacation right now in Florida, and I've ate fish every single day for almost every meal, except breakfast! I LOVE it!!! Salmon is really really good for your complexion too... and its way yummy!

Nancy-
I am not an expert by any means but your body is under a lot of stress and is acting in different ways in response to it. In my own case I also found that when I got dizzy it was my blood pressure dropping. I didn't know this until my PCP asked me to monitor the blood pressure when I had those feelings. He made an adjustment in my medication and it helped. For what it's worth, I might make an appointment with my PCP and see what he/she says.
Hope this helps.
