Yeah, I think she mixed them up.

I don't think you can get vitamin D3 in a chewable. I take it and mine is really tiny little pill, though. It's not hard to swallow. You can get iron in a chewable if you prefer. My surgeon recommended chewables because he said they are absorbed better. However, I am on some prescription meds that don't come in a liquid or a chewable, and he was fine with me taking those pills. I am thinking of switching to a vitamin in a capsule, despite the fact that my doc recommended a chewable, because the chewables have been upsetting my stomach. Celebrate makes capsules for bariatric patients, so I think that will probably be OK.

I eat breakfast shortly after I get up, then take my meds and vitamins after that. I like to have something in my stomach when I take them because it helps keep my stomach from getting so upset.

Kelly

You can get vitamin D3 in liquid form from vitacost:

fl oz - Vitamin D3 - Cholecalciferol - Vitamin D - Vitamins - Vitacost

This is one I've used: NSI Vitamin D Drops -- 2000 IU - 1 fl oz - Vitacost

I was just on a once a week 50,000 unit pill

it was a small gel type pill and it went down easily ... now I need to go get more blood work and see if I need to stay on it for a while.

With my blindingly white Irish skin and red hair my D was rrrrrreally low even before surgery ... now it's nearly non existent lol

Kat,

To the best of my knowledge, a 50,000IU gel cap is D2 (Ergocalciferol) (brand names Drisdol and Calciferol), and not D3 (Cholecalciferol). Most health professionals don't even know that D3 exists in a 50,00IU dose!

Dry form D3 is the form that we need and this is a good article about D3 vs D2: The case against ergocalciferol (vitamin D2) as a vitamin supplement -- Houghton and Vieth 84 (4): 694 -- American Journal of Clinical Nutrition

I use a 50,000IU dry form D3 weekly. Biotech does one although the cheapest is from vitalady - I believe they are from Biotech but carry the vitalady label: Vitalady.com - Protein Supplements, Vitamins & Minerals and Safe Snacks!

Corrine, you said "Your dietician needs to be aware of that." My Dietician should be aware of what exactly?

Am I doing something wrong? Am I taking too many vitamins? Too little?

Right now I'm taking a total of 12 pills a day. I've been doing 6 in the mornng and 6 at night, but it can be tough on my stomach if I don't take my time doing it. I'm going to start doing 3 pills, 3 times a day. That way it won't take me an hour to get 6 pills down.

She may mean the fact that you are taking calcium carbonate instead of calcium citrate. Calcium citrate is the kind we need, as it is much better absorbed.
