Question about losing inches when the scale doesn't move
So I have taken everyone's advice and I put away my scale. I took measurements yesterday and from last Saturday, I lost 1/2" on my arms and 1" off my waist, as well as various 1/4" off other parts.
But, I couldn't resist and this morning I checked the scale. It still said the same thing.
That is fine. But my question is, how can you be losing inches when you are not losing fat? I guess I just don't understand it. Especially if you aren't getting in enough protein. Some days I do, some days I can't.
Does anybody know?

In maintenance... now I'm yo-yoing up and down 10 lbs or so. I'm trying to find out how to stay at a set weight, it's rough.

Muscle weighs more then fat. A simple answer, but let me explain a bit more. Muscle is also denser then fat. So it takes up less space. As the fat melts away and as you increase your protein you are building muscle, not a lot, and you do even better if you are exercising. If you go to obesityhelp.com and look at the before and after pictures, one thing will stand out. People will have their weight listed and you will think, there's no way she weighs 170 pounds. For example Bridget is around 160 and in a size 8! On a regular person that height and weight she'd be more like a size 10 or 12. The scale is discouraging, so stick with the tape measure! Good luck!

Thank you for your response, Robin! That does make sense. Yes, I am exercising. My legs are just getting over hurting from doing squats, I am starting to get used to them. And I am walking on average 2 miles/day with hills included. Yesterday I did 3.

I always tend to lose more inches than pounds. It's definetly wierd, but it's better than not losing anything for sure. When I saw one of my friends this weekend down in Tucson he said I looked like I had lost a lot more since I had seen him 2 weeks ago. Well, I hadn't lost anything at all so it had to be the inches.
P.S.-It was nice meeting up with you this weekend Tiffany. Hate to say it though, the applebee's met the toilet about a half an hour after It still tasted great though.

Jen, yes it was nice meeting up with you! You know, on the drive home from Applebee's I felt sick. I don't think that the chicken agreed with me either. Too bad it happened to both of us!
We should do it again sometime though!! It was fun.
