Default 2 weeks post op......NAUSEA

Hi everyone! It's been quite a while since I've posted, but I'm back because I'm in desperate need of support and hints I had my surgery, LAP RNY on May 28th. I was doing really well, surgery went great, first week post op was great but now I have such nausea everytime I eat. I had my post op appt. yesterday and told the surgeon about heartburn I had been getting and she put me on Prilosec and Carafate in case I have an ulcer forming. Today is only the first day I'm using the new meds, so I guess I have to give them some time to work, but I can't deal with the nausea anymore! It's terrible! Has anyone else experienced this? If so, what did you do to help yourself? I feel soooo yucky! Earlier today I was so nauseous it nearly brought me to my knees. ANY advice would be much appreciated!!

What other meds are you on? I had what I would call queasiness, not quite nausea from week 2 to week 5. Some of it was caused by my protein drinks, and some of it from the Fusion Bariatric Vitamins I was taking. Make sure you're eating/drinking very slowly, taking very small bites, chewing really, really well. I'm sure you're already doing all that. My Surgeon gave me a prescription for Phenergan, which is for nausea. I didn't use it, but was comforted knowing it was in my medicine cabinet. I also brush my teeth numerous times per day, the protein drinks leave a nasty aftertaste that gags me. I hope some of this helps..............I'm sorry you're feeling this way.

I'm not taking any other meds right now. They said I'd be starting on my vitamins in 2 weeks at my 4 week post op visit. It's times like this I sit back and think "what in the world did I do to myself?" I can't stand feeling this way. I have no energy whatsoever.....not sure where to go from here! Thanks for your reply!

I'm quite concerned that you aren't starting Bariatric Vitamins until 4 weeks post-op. I was started on them in the hospital. Were you on any antibiotics in the hospital? They can take a while to get out of your system, and do cause nausea. I wouldn't wait to see my surgeon, call and get something for that nausea, because it makes it very difficult to get your fluids and protein in. You might be dehydrated also. Some nausea is normal, but not to the extent you're describing. I had to go on an antibiotic 11 days post-op due to one of my troch sites looked a little infected (it wasn't) anyway, I became very nauseated, and extremely fatigued.............and thought the same thing you are "What did I do". It does pass, I promise. PM me anytime you need support. But, I would call my surgeon first thing tomorrow.

I had a lot of nausea for the first few months after my surgery. At first my surgeon said it was because I wasn't getting enough fluids. Apparently dehydration can cause nausea. Then he said it was because I wasn't getting enough protein. Apparently that can cause nausea, too. Once I started getting enough protein, the nausea went away.

I am too curious about why you aren't supposed to start taking vitamins until four weeks. I've never heard of that. I wonder if a lack of vitamins might be causing nausea?
