so there are eight vitamins you have to take daily? can someone talk about all the medications and vitamins that need taking on a daily basis. lets say more like a typical week.

Hi Redneckboy. I don't think 8 vitamins daily is a good way to describe it...because many of these are already in multi-vitamins. In addition, some people must take extra supplements, because of deficiencies. On the flip side, you don't want to take too much of something...or you could develop vitamin toxicity. That is why it is so important to get your blood work done on a regular basis.

Here's what I take (going from memory, so I might forget something):

Morning:
1 chewable multi-vitamin
1 Klor-Con M20 (prescription med for potassium deficiency)
2 Carbonyl Iron (I have anemia)
1 chewable Vit-C (helps the iron absorb better)

Mid-morning:
500 mg Calcium Citrate w/ Vit D

Afternoon:
500 mg Calcium Citrate w/ Vit D
1 Vit-B Complex

Bedtime:
1 chewable multi-vitamin
1 Klor-Con M20 (prescription med for potassium deficiency)
2 Carbonyl Iron (I have anemia)
1 chewable Vit-C (helps the iron absorb better)
1 Prilosec 20 mg (prescription med)
1 Zyrtec 10 mg (I have allergies)
1 Probiotic/Acidophilus pill (helps with bathroom problems)

I really should be taking 1500 mg of Calcium Citrate daily. I need to change my schedule to add another one in.

What I take is two multivitamins, four calciums (calcium citrate), one b complex, and one vitamin d3 a day. I had to add the d3 because I had a deficiency. Then, once a week, I use the b12 patch.

This is my normal schedule but I too have some downward trends with my labs so I've had to increase them.

Breakfast
1 Celebrate chewable multi-vitamin
500mg Calcium Citrate w/ Vit D (Celebrate Plus)
2000IU Vitamin D3 (I have a vit. D deficiency)

Lunch
500mg Calcium Citrate w/ Vit D

Supper
1 Celebrate chewable multi-vitamin
500mg Calcium Citrate w/ Vit D

Bedtime
500mg Vitamin C
90mg Carbonyl Iron (to maintain normal labs)

My vitamin schedule is very similar, now he's added potassium chloride. Is there anythng this should not be mixed with or I should wait before taking?

I've again fallen into the trap of not remembering my vitamins. I've tried every trick in the book to remember to take them.

I vow to do them, I read the horror stories and I still tend to 'forget'. (ADD'ers have some of the highest non-compliance of medications than any other population, according to my PCP..*sigh*)

I've been dizzy the last few days and thought it was the vertigo but last night I thought- could it be my lack of vits & supplements?

So, I have made an excel chart with my meds listed, which to take and the time to take them. Between all the various pills I'm up to 33 a day (one prescription- an allergy med) the rest are all vitamins and supplements I wouldn't have to take if not for the surgery.

So, along with the chart I've enlisted my husbands help to 'gently' encourage me (read: nag nicely) to make sure I take them. I'm 18 months out, I *know* the reasons and I *know* the problems and I'm still having trouble.

Stupid. (I also have had a few lbs of gain, but that was in another thread- also rededicating myself to doing the right thing there, too)

Default Calcium Chew Question

I know we are suppose to take the Calcium Citrate chewable but they are so big and hard that the viactiv is alot easier for me to take and are taking those more. Anyone taking the Viactiv with good or bad results? Just wondering. I go Thursday for my first blood tests and will see the doctor next week for the results. Fingers crossed that everything is good.

I do notice that I have dark circles under my eyes. I did before surgery but think they are darker now after surgery. Any thoughts anyone?

Low potassium can be VERY dangerous LadyV. Namely, it can damage your heart. Fatigue is also a symptom of low potassium.

I've ended up in the hospital twice due to low potassium, and ended up having to get it pumped into me by IV. That is extremely painful...it feels like liquid fire going into your veins. It's an experience I hope to never repeat again. Incidentally, that hasn't happened since I had my RNY...I've been much more compliant with taking my prescription potassium meds since then.

As far as I know, potassium doesn't interact with anything else. I take it in pill form, since the powdered variety didn't agree with me. The powdered type I tried "fizzed" up, just like a carbonated drink, and gave me a heck of a belly ache. I've been swallowing pills since a few days after surgery, so that's not a problem for me.

Kel, I'm giving you a cyber slap on the hand! You're not a newbie honey, and you KNOW that you NEED to take them! If it helps, print out the first post on this thread and stick it on your refrigerator or bathroom mirror. Ha ha, Geof might "nag" you about it, but so will I. If anything, I'll spam your Facebook page with reminders to take them.

Do you have a pill organizer? You know, one that says Sunday through Saturday, and has spots for morning, noon, afternoon, and bedtime. I got a nice one at Wally World for about $4, back near the pharmacy. Once a week, I take a few minutes to fill it up and I'm set for the week.
