Unhappy Plateau so soon?????

I'm aware that there will be times when you may hit a plateau, but I'm just 2 weeks out today and I feel like I've plateau already, I figured the plateaus would come later after surgery. I've lost approx. 13 lbs since surgery but haven't lost anything since about 3 days now. Am I being over anxious to see the pounds drop? I'm figuring those first 13 lbs. were water weight since before surgery my feet and ankles were swollen and now their so boney. I thought about going to the gym today to do some brisk walking on the treadmill to boost my metabolism and with hopes that it would jump start my weight lost again. Any suggestions? Has anyone else had early plateaus such as this? Will I see more weight loss or is this all I should expect without daily gym visits?

Yoli:

Let me be the first to say it...RELAX! You're not on a plateau. You've just had MAJOR surgery. Your body has gone through a tremendous trauma. The 13 lbs. you have already lost is great! Don't obsess about the pounds. If you have to, put your scale away. Or, Bridget will literally come and take your scale from your house! LOL

You have just embarked on a wonderful, thrilling, scary journey. If you think that you're freaked out, think about your BODY! It doesn't know what the hell is going on! Your body will try to fight you at times. It will hold onto water and weight at times. But, you know what? YOU'LL WIN. So, don't worry about it. Just keep doing the good things you're supposed to do and, guess what? The weight WILL COME OFF. I guarantee it.

Patience, dear, patience. God and time...I promise the pounds will go away!

Love you, sweetie pie. You're doing a great job!

Thanks Dara, I will take your advice and put the scale away. I've finally had the chance to read some of the other posts and realize that there are others going through the same thing I'm experiencing. I guess when individuals have a major surgery such as the one I've just had, you expect more results as opposed to what you could have achieved on any other diet such as the Atkins Diet.

I will stop the madness and be patient. Once again, thanks.

Hey Yoli, yes to what Dara said, you are not on a plateau... your body is just adjusting to the caloric intake n stuff. Your only 2 weeks out, so at this point there is nothing you can do to switch things up or anything. Unless perhaps if you are exercising switch that up a bit. For example, if you are walking now, try pool aerobics. If your not walking at all, start.

Best wishes!

Yolanda,
When I first went through the surgery, I think I was the biggest stresser about the weight loss. I did what you did...lost for 2 weeks and then not one pound until about 10 days later. This has continued to happen throughout. Some people lose steadily and others of us stairstep. It got to the point that I would only lose weight the week of my period...go figure. It still happened rather rapidly in hindsite. I lost 150 lbs in 10 mos. Now I am trying to maintain the best I can since I am pregnant...but I am trying to have faith that the rest WILL come off after my little one is here. Good luck to you...it will happen. Oh...BTW, I am still a scale freak and stresser. The ones that can control the compulsion to weigh constantly do seem better off!

Oh...and take your measurements. You will be amazed at how quickly they drop even when the numbers on the scale aren't.

Thanks for all your advices, today is the first day since coming home from the hospital that I didn't get on the scale (I actually forgot), although I don't feel like I've lost any pounds. I'll keep up the diet and walking, wait it out, and try not to stress.

Once again, thanks everyone.

Default You're not alone in this.

Hey girl,

You're not the only one who feels like you've plateaued. I'm 5 weeks out today and I haven't lost an ounce or inches in weeks!

I'm feeling like the first and only wls failure. I've taken to researching new diets. Considering counting calories, Deciding whether or not I need to talk with another surgeon to see if by chance this surgery was screwed up somehow.

I know some of you are gonna post telling me to give it time and I know I should be more patient but I have to tell you. That's not one of my virtues.

It's also one of the reasons I failed at every diet attempt...Diet, diet, diet and diet some more till I paced in front of the refrigerator half starved until finally I would just eat.........and eat.

Ya think maybe our bodies are just use to waiting us out until we give up? Could that possibly be the game here? I'm not sure but for the next few days I think I will count the calories I am taking in...Maybe...Just maybe I'm taking in too many. Plus it will help me feel like I'm doing something to change things and get the pounds melting again.

Just call me "Stuck @ 16 & Holding."

I got on the scale today, after avoiding it yesterday, and found that an additional 2 lbs were gone. Maybe I'm back on track as most had mentioned. I decided to do like some said, and not weigh myself daily. When I did the Atkins diet a year or so ago, I weighed myself only once a week and was very happy with the results (100 lbs lost in 5 mos.), so I figured I would do the same with the WLS. Thanks for everyone's advice.

Just calm down and STAY OFF THE SCALE!!!!! It will happen! You have just put your body throug ha major shock and sometimes it takes things a while to even out. Follow the diet your doc gave you. Eating too little (and too little protein) can so down your loss as well. Just do some excercise and eat some protein and it will happen.
