Default How soon to start exercising?

I am one day short of being 2 weeks post -op. I feel like I would like to start exercising again. Exercising like in jogging and going to Curves. I am already exercising in my pool but want to bring it up a notch. How long after your surgery did you wait to start exercising, especially those of you that work out at Curves?

i go to curves. you need to wait at least 8 weeks. at this point all you should be doing is walking.

I started Curves at 2 weeks after my open RNY. I just don't do any of the AB machines.
I say you go and play it by ear. Make sure you have some protien before you go. Take it easy at first.
My dr was ok with this also. She said we know our bodies better than they do.

My doc said 6 to 8 weeks for anything other than walking. I wouldn't do anything to strenous you don't want ot have a set back. Try a short, slow jog and see how you feel.

Thanks, you guys! I am gonna call my surgeon tomorrow and see if I can try Curves (except for the ab machines) since I really feel like I am up to it. I dont want to mess anything up but I also don't want to wait so long to exercise that its hard to get back into the habit.

You should have been walking the day after surgery. Thats when the walking should start.

I started walking the day of surgery. I have the walking down ok - I want to kick it up a notch. I have also been doing exercise in my pool which has been incredibly beneficial to getting my stamina back up.

Wait 6 weeks before you kick it up a notch... after 4 weeks you can do pool exercises. Relax... dont want a hernia.. I hear those hurt like hell!

Ok - thanks, I don't want a hernia, either. My dr did give me the go ahead for the pool exercise, though. Its a pretty easy workout.
