Hickmann / Central Line
First of all I want to thank everyone for their prayers!!! That is the most important part of my healing and getting better......
Well I have been home now for 2 nights. I had spent the past 2 weks in the hospital. While up there in Chicago I underwent another scope and I am pleased to say it went well, the only problem is the doctor said I am slow to heal and my body is having a time excepting the changes made. I was given a Hickmann while up there, it is an IV that can stay in for about 2 months or so. I have become such a terrible stick that there was no choice in the matter. Because the couldn't get a regular IV started on me (I was so so dehydrated) I had to go through the procedure of the Central Line / Hickmann with only litacain (spelling), they wasn't able to sadate me the way i should have been. I came home with my IV in place and at night I get 12 hours of feeding of fluids, vitamins ect... It is awful, if you have never had to go through this I pray you never will either. I can taste the nasty formula they give me, and not to mention it smells bad. I relate the vitamin smell to a Gerbil or gerbil feed. Yesterday I took a good long soak, in hopes the small would go away, I think all I managed to do was get clean and keep the aweful oder that penetrates through my pours. Oh not to mention if I sweet the smell is that much stronger. BUT I can't complain, this central line is my source of fuel and life saving in this time of my life. I will have to have it for the next 2 weeks to a month.
While in the hospital I learned the hard way that I am allergic to heprin shots and tape, my poor body was covered with welts and hives from the allergies and trust me I learned real fast the benefits of benedryl, They put it through my IV and it would hit me like a ton of bricks, but the important thing is it did the job. As far as the tape allergies, I was covered with water blisters wherre the put the tape and when they pulled off the tape the blisters would pop.....I am still healing from the open sores.
Because I dehydrate so fast I don't dare venture out side, with the weather being in the 90's and the humidity being high as well, I just know that would be a disaster in the making.

Thank God you are home and doing better. What an awful ordeal to go through. I cringed when I read about having to have a Hickman line with only litacaine. I am a hard stick, too, and having an IV without liticaine is hell for me, I can only imagine what you went through with one of those. You are one tough cookie!

Suzeq~
Wow, you poor girl. My sister had to have that pickline or whatever it is called like you and it was just awful. She was a hard stick, too. I am so sorry for you and pray that you get well soon. 2 weeks in a hospital is not fun and I am so glad you are home. You had us all scared. Get well

When it's all over, you can look back and laugh. Life is a funny thing, the misery we go through. Transformation is a painful and arduous process. Give yourself some kudos to have the guts to stick it out and work towrds a goal. So many people are stuck in their stagant lives going no where fast.

Sue,
You're still in my prayers for complete healing and tougher veins! Glad you're not going out. It's starting to get warmer here and I'm not looking foward to hanging out in an unairconditioned house when I get back from the hospital. Stay inside where it's cool lady, and take good care of you!
