Default Post Op food (first 2 weeks)

Hi, My wife is having her op today !!! I know she'll be on a liquid diet for the first 2 weeks but would like to try and vary it a little for her to try and make it a little better (and possibly less depressing). Would appriciate any suggestions.

Thanks !

Ooops, I think this is in the wrong section she's having a band not a bypass.

well there isn't a lot of choices unfortunately. My 2 weeks was water, broth, juices, tea, coffee, skim milk, jello and popsicles.... that was it.

If it's any help she isn't going to really feel like drinking much of anything so the lack of choices won't really be an issue.

She also won't be hungry and will only be able to consume very small amounts so even a cup of broth will be way too much for one sitting.

The 2 weeks passes by pretty quickly though.

I wish her all the best

It depends on if she is on clear liquids or full liquids. I was on full liquids for my first 2 weeks after surgery. I could pretty much eat anything that I could puree that would suck through a straw (I didn't suck it through a straw, I just figured that analogy would make it a liquid). I pureed all kinds of soups. Campbell's Chunky soups worked very well for me. Do not puree clam chowder...GROSS. There is like a chicken and broccoli one and a chicken and dumpling. One of my favorites was the bean and ham. I could also eat the Dannon Lite and Fit yogurt. I also made sugar free pudding with canned evaporated skim milk. Doesn't set up quite as firm but still good.

She really isn't going to feel like eating but I found that if I didn't I got very nauseated. Good luck and it's awesome you are being so supportive. You have no idea how much help you will be.

Had surgery on a Monday..came home on Wed.....had my broths and jello and popcicles and was going good on those......on Friday I went and bought a small Wendy's chili.......and from that day on I ate chili and cottage cheese.....and drank my shakes.

I've got taken to task before for posting that......but my doc told me to try what you can.....not bad stuff....but if you can tolerate something try and eat it.

Worked and is working for me.......in 5 days it will be my 6 month mark and I've gone from 409 to 275 .......and there really is nothing I can't eat.

Now on that Friday I chewed the hell out of that chili.....as I do most everything now......chew chew chew!!!

My doc was similar to yours. I was able to eat soft foods pretty much right away, and was released to eat anything I wanted at 2 weeks. Congrats on that huge amount of weight loss! My starting weight is about the same is yours, and I really hope I can be at 275 at 6 months.

Follow doctors orders......

I think it was clear liquids the first week, the full liquids the next week for me.

the progressive and campbells healthy choice soups I pureed.

Good luck to your wife, I am sure she will do great!

Thanks everyone for the ideas, I shall be writing them all down and heading to the supermarket. Well done CrazyElvis on your awesome results !

The Op got cancelled today for 2.5 weeks due to my wife having a cold last week. Popped straight out for a small meal as she'd done 2 weeks pre op followed by the starving thing before the op. Now she's got another couple of weeks of pre op diet to look forward to

Thanks again, I will stock up ready.
