Default Blood clots

I have a question,I'm one week out today and was wondering when the risk factor for blood clots is over? My left leg is twitching and a little tight.
I can't fiqure out if my legs are stiff due to laying around all day.
Kelly said swelling and pain at the hospital.Do any of you remember?
I have been in so much pain from surgery i haven't noticed anything until today.I don't want to be over worried about everything. Thanks Talk to you soon.

Are you walking? That is really important. I think she said 6 weeks, but don't quote me on that. I remeber my legs were real sensitive and hurt real bad, but that was because I was losing so fast. I would call the service if it is that bad and have her give you a call.

I wore my TED hose stockings/socks....the tight ones they give you in the hospital when I was laying around. I wear them every night right now since I just had 2 surgeries this past month. It is very important to get up and walk around quite frequently even if it is for a short walk around the inside of your house. Be safe and call Kelly if the pain persists.

Default Misty,

I'd call too! Better to be safe than sorry! I'm praying that it's nothing to be concerned about.

Smile Blood Clots

Your risk for them can last as long as 6 months. If the calf feels tight, that is cause for concern, twitching is usually not symptom of clots but heck everyone is different. Does it feel cold? Is there discoloration? Usually it starts with red streaking. It is important that you dont sit for longer than 30 mins (thats good advice for all people) you should move, walk, shake your legs or whatever every 30 minutes.

be safe and call the doc. I had horrible leg cramps and twitching for about 4 weeks. The doc said it was low potassium and suggested 1/2 cup of OJ mixed with 1/2 cup of water for the potassium. It worked great. I still have it every once in awhile and I drink the OJ and it goes away. You are pretty early out for OJ so call and find out what is going on.

My legs hurt after surgery and they did a venous ultrasound just to be sure it wasn't clots; it wasn't. It's usually your electrolytes get out of balance. It's important to stay hydrated and walk, walk, walk, walk.

Lqueen= your doc said you had low potassium. when I was in the hosptial for my
appendix they told me that over and over. Is it true that is what happened to Teri Shivo (spelling???) This really scares me. I mean I looked up potassium and it is in so many things that I eat already I cant understand why it keeps coming up low. WHat all did your doc say about it? Have they checked your level since telling you to drink the OJ?? Did it help

Along with potassium being dangerous when low is also low levels of magnesium. When I was early post-op, I was feeling almost dead and they admitted me to the hospital and ran every test...I had barely a trace of magnesium, so they had to pump me up with IV meds. With low magnesium comes risk of heart attack and I can see how low Potassium can also be very dangerous. Please make sure you trust you instincts...if you think something is wrong...call....it is much better to be safe. I hope everything is ok with your leg.
