Hi ya all, I am new somewhat and am just going to my first educational class on the 23rd of Aug. In reading all of your posts I was wondering who long it was before you were able to leave the hospital? Then I imagine that it is at least 3 weeks before you can go back to work. Is this correct in a basic case?

I'm still pre-op, but can tell you what I was told. It takes a few weeks to get back to a desk job, provided you get opportunities to walk every hour. For any lifting it is at least 4 weeks. The place I am going to has open people stay the night of surgery, then 2 more nights. Lap people stay the night of surgery and one more night. Good luck on your surgery!!

I stayed in the hospital for 23 hours. I was told I could go back to work at 2 weeks but I am lucky and have the summer off so I will have been off 7 weeks before I go back.

Hey Yoli,
We were in the hospital together, remember I was the really gung ho biatch who wanted to get everyone up and walk? LOL well when I went home all was well until day 7 and then all hell broke lose I was crying and didn't know what I had done to myself, and up until about 3 days ago couldn't keep any food down. It was a bad rollercoaster ride... but talk to people when you are feeling cranky even though they may not want to talk to you LOL. It's all normal you have no food to manage your anxiety anymore. And yes I got light headed and dizzy until I was able to get protein down. Good luck and keep in touch ok? Suzy

I'm a bit worried that I shouldn't be feeling this way. Is that normal? Also, I can't sleep at night. It's not because I'm not sleepy, because I am, I just can't seem to get comfortable. When I lay on my sides I get sharp pains inside my stomach on the side that I happened to be laying on, so I'm forced to lay on my back which I'm never good at because I can't breathe very well on my back and I snore like crazy. My CPAP doesn't help because it causes me to have a very dry mouth. Any suggestions?

Hey that sounds like I won't have to worry so much about taking time off of work. I was a little worried as I don't have much time. I didn't think that it was so fast getting out of the hospital though. I guess it would be nice to be in my own bed to recover. Did you have someone with you after, for the first week, all the time or just checking on you?

My husband happened to be on vacation when I came home so he was with me for a week. I wouldn't have needed it though. I had my surgery laproscopically so I was able to get around fine on my own.

gladtobeme, Don't forget, you are entitled to up to 12 weeks of Disability. Be sure to get the paper work from your HR person.

Thanks, Gramamarc. I didn't even think about the Disability. I will be sure to look into that. I had my 1st educational meeting yesterday and was really happy to be there. It is the first step to a whole new life. I have already filled out my application and am writing my "reason I want it done" and it will be in the mail tomarrow. I have already called my Dr.'s office to get the lab work, etc. started. YIPPY
