Default Doctor wants me to lose 35 lbs in next 6 weeks?

I just got back from my 2 week post op appt. Everything went really well, my surgeon was happy with my weight loss. He told me to come back in 6 weeks for my 2-month post op and he wants me to lose 35 pounds by then. This just seems like a lot! I already lost 24.5 pounds, but the first month is faster I thought. This would mean I would lose almost 60 pounds in 2 months. Does anybody have any thoughts on this?

He also told me it was OK to start doing abdominal exercises! I will try but it just seems scary to me that I just had surgery 2 weeks ago and I would think that straining my stomach this early would be good but he said it wouldn't be a problem. Just start slow. Did anybody else start this early that had lap?

In maintenance... now I'm yo-yoing up and down 10 lbs or so. I'm trying to find out how to stay at a set weight, it's rough.

Default Maybe?

I think your surgeon was saying that you should lose 35 lbs. in two months, not ANOTHER 35 lbs.

Either.... it was a misunderstanding.... or your Doctor is on crack! And you should do exercises when YOU feel ready. Doctors give advice but only YOU know how YOU feel. That's my 2 cents worth.... well maybe 1/2 a cent....

That is what I thought! I told him, WOW that is a lot of weight to lose! He said he didn't think I would have a problem. It definetly wasn't a misunderstanding! He had a chart that showed my weight loss and how much excess weight I would still have left to go. It was 63 pounds left with a weight of 186 on 8/17/05. I wish I would have asked him for a copy!

I might be disapointing him at my next visit, I don't think someone of my size is going to lose 35 pounds in 6 weeks no matter how hard I try.

I had lap and my Dr. told me 4 weeks for exercise. I can not even pick up the baby untill I am a month out unless I am sitting then I can pick him up. I can't honestly say I have listened all that well as I have been picking him up just lifting with my legs I have not had any pain.

My doctor told me to wait a year before doing abdominal exercises such as sit-ups.

I'm sorry.... and not to be... rude.... but who cares if he's dissapointed!?!? You have enough to worry about as it is, and are certainly hard enough on yourself. If at your next appointment he brings it up as an issue.... simply tell him as sweetly as you can muster... "I'm sorry I didn't lose enough weight to meet your ideal, but I could lose 180 pounds today, simply by firing you for not being supportive. How would that be?" And people say I'm feisty....

You and I started at about the same weight. I started at 242 and I am 5'3" so almost the same. Anyway I think at my 3 month I was at -38lbs my doctor was pleased and told I was right were he wanted me to be. Slow but steady is healthier than quick and sick. I can see your doctor saying this maybe if you started at 400lbs then it would be different but to for him to expect you to lose an additional 10-20% of your body fat that fast is insane.

Don't listen to him about the numbers. My doctor told me the numbers are not that important. That healthy life style changes and slow but steady weight loss if the key to success. Fire him from speaking to you about numbers or you will go insane trying to meet this nut jobs expectations.

Just my penny of a thought.
