Default Always Thirsty!

Hi,
I wondering if anyone has any advice for me. I am 9 days out and am thirsty all the time I cannot seem to quench my thirst. I have also been a big drinker and gulper. Does this seem to get better any suggestions?

Your body is craving water which in the early days postop is hard to get enough in. Keep a water bottle next to you and sip every few minutes during your waking hours. As you can slowly drink more and more, this feeling will pass.

Cool Mouthful-try it

Yes, try a mouthful and see how it goes. It is the CONSTANT sipping all day long that will get enough water in to relieve your thirst and get your body re-hydrated.

I don't know if this will help you or not, but I would eat sugar-free popsicles. That seemed to help me a lot.

Default Thirst

As far as being thirsty, that is perfectly normal.. and it is normal up to well I'd say at least 3 1/2 months out since that is how far out I am. I use to think the post ops were being silly carrying their bottles of water all around, now I'm one of "those" people. Trust me you won't go anywhere without your bottle.. it's my friend. Don't gulp but you can swallow a mouth full if you need to just not a large mouthful. Be careful but seriously the whole tea spoon thing.. I never did it except in the hospital.. after that I took small sips and worked my way to finally just drinking normal for me now. I don't gulp that still hurts. But I do drink what I figure is a normal consistancy at any given time. Make sure you get enough water or fluids in because you can easily dehydrate.. take care and ask if you have more questions.. oh and a big welcome to the other side!!! YAY!!!

Sugar free popsickles are the best after surgery!!!
