Default Trouble eating.....

I seem to throw up a lot. (6-8 times a week.) I don't eat sugar, I TRY to eat slowly, I drink lots of water (not with meals), I suffer through the protein shakes, I don't snack between meals. I've lost 45 pounds 8 weeks post op and I'm very happy about that but, I'm having mixed feelings about having the surgery. I feel strong, I'm looking better, It's easier to do things, but It's getting so I'm afraid to eat cause I'm afraid to throw up yet again.

I can tolerate moist white chicken, most cheeses, shrimp, some vegetables, some fruits but my choices seem very restricted.

Does anyone else have this problem? Will it pass? My DR. says after 3 months things get easier and less restrictive. Did anyone else find this to be true?

Well many of us were on a different type of diet than you are post operatively. After 3 months things do get alot easier. Try cream soups, and other soft foods. Stay away from the dense things such as vegetables and meats/poultry at this time. Try the soft foods for a couple of weeks and see how you feel.

I use to throw up alot in the beginning. Actaully I threw up alot until Novemeber 2004, I realized I was eating eaither too fast or dense foods and that was making me sick and I would force myself to vomit. Chew really really slow, and go soft for now. i bet you will feel alot better. If you dont feel better in the next 3 days after staying on liquid and soft foods call your Dr.

I threw up a lot at around 8 weeks too. I still do occasionally but that is only when I don't chew well or something really disagrees with me. Tiny bites and chew, chew, chew. Things should improve as you get use to what you can and can't tolerate and how quickly you can eat things.

I hurled my guts up quite a bit at first also. My belly just wasn't ready for some things. It was 6 months before I could eat chicken, but I could eat beef and fish. My belly was just finicky. I found that if I would take a bite and wait about 3 or 4 minutes before taking another bite, then I would know if I could tolerate it or not. Also, I could eat something one day, and the next day I would throw up from the same thing. When you do vomit, your belly is irritated for about a day or so, so be very kind to your pouch. After you throw up, go on liquids for at least the rest of the day to give your belly a rest.

Eight weeks is when I went through my vomiting stage. Foaming and frothing after every meal. It lasted for about 3 weeks. Food that I was starting to tolerate came back. I thought it was permanent. But over the last few weeks I have not had a single episode, I have also noticed that the amount I get in is slightly more.

You will get through it. And when you do it will be a wonderful relief.
