Default dumping on a protein shake...is that possible???

Okay like I stated in another thread, I didn't get much in yesterday, but for quite a few hours last night was totally miserable. I had 2 16 oz bottles of water with sf crystal light pink lemonade. 1 bottle of 16 oz water and 3/4 protein shake. Whatd I put in it? 2 scoops chocolate whey protein - for 52 g protein, 8 oz 2 percent milk, 1 packet carnation instant breakfast - no sugar added, and 1 sf chocolate pudding and a few cubes of ice. I'm pretty early out to know dumping, especially on a protein shake??? I had cold sweats, tummy hurting, and nausea and headache for quite a few hours, don't know if that's what dumping is, which makes me question what's going on. Am I just weird?, did I do something wrong with the protein?

Sorry to hear about your dumping....can't really answer the questions as to what it feels like but looking at your recipe, my NUT said to use skim milk only. Could the 2% milk been a little to greasy?

Im sure there will be others on this board with more answers and experiences than I can give. Glad you're better.

also that carnation instant break has sugar in it, but i wouldnt use 2 protein scoops at once your body wont absorb all that protein at once break it up into 2 separate shakes / scoops instead of 2 scoops

It's all of it added up. How many g sugar all together? Cut some of it out from somewhere. The milk could be a problem too. Try skim milk and only one scoop of protein at a time and see what happens.

Thanks I see your point. I just wanted to get the protein over with, I'll just have to be more imaginative, lol. Makes me not wanna drink a shake ever again...

About 12g sugar in your milk, 7g in Carnation Instant Breakfast (no sugar added), plus your 3g in the protein = 22g of sugar and that's without the pudding.

I'd have a problem with 22g sugar too.

As far as milk is concerned, the only thing you save when dropping from whole milk to 2% or down to non-fat/skimmed, is the fat (and cholesterol).

They all have 11-12g sugar, and pretty much the same (8g ish) of protein.

But you're right, the increased fat in 2% could cause a problem to some people.

I agree with the responses above, but I also think there's a possibility you might be lactose intolerant. It's a common side effect of the surgery. I had dumping symptoms when I drank it, before I finally figured out what was causing the problem.

So, if decreasing the amounts and using skim milk doesn't help you, try using unsweetened soy, rice, or almond milk instead. Watch for the lactose in your protein powder as well. Some are lactose free, and some aren't.
