Hello all,
I just found this forum today and it looks like a friendly place and everyone seems very supportive. I only was a member of obesityhelp.com which is very informative but they don't seem to have a good forum like this one.
I had my lap RNY on Tues. 21st of June.
I was discharged from hospital on 23rd of June.

Some things that I didn't expect...

1. I had the Foley Catheter in until 1 day after surgery. After that I couldn't urinate on my own! How scary! The nurse actually made me more scared and said they would have to put a straight catheter in to empty my bladder. I was scared because I was asleep the first time and didn't feel a thing. They did have to put in the second one but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It did empty my bladder and 8 hours later I was able to go on my own (thank goodness!)

2. My 6 little incision sites look fine, but below on the left side there is a lot of bruising. It's getting more purple every day. There is also an area below the bruising that looks like a "bulge". I was worried about a hernia so I called the doctor's office and they said these things were normal. Anybody else experience things like this?

3. I had fever until today of about 101. I think it finally went away today. Doc said it was normal.

4. I can't seem to lie down. Or if I do lie down I sometimes have sooooo much pain that I have to get up. I wasn't expecting that. It's hard to sleep. I read in another post about this things so I guess it's normal, huh?

I don't feel hungry, which was my biggest fear. I haven't vomited but sometimes the thought of taking medicines (especially crushed pills) makes me really cringe. I think I was like 324 lbs. at the 2 week pre-op visit with the nurse. I weighed 319 when I went to my Primary Care Physician for 7 day pre-op physical (different scale). They didn't weigh me on day of surgery. Today I bought a digital bathroom scale at Costco and I weighed in at 304.5! Can't believe it!

Well, I look forward to participating in this forum. Normally I don't write so much, but I have several concerns at one time so I lumped them all together. Good luck to all the rest of you too!

Hi there! Welcome to the forum!!

I too had lap RNY on the 21st of June, discharged on the 23rd. I didn't have a fever but I do have a lot of bruising at the incisions (i have 6 too) it looks pretty bad but it is normal. Until today, I was finding it hard to get up from lying down (but I could lie flat and on my side no problem, once I got to that position) and I was having a hard time sleeping. But today I am feeling almost no pain, I feel so much better, and I am having almost no trouble at all getting up and down and moving around. I even went to the store and walked around for a little over an hour and I just got a little tired, not bad.

I think what you are experiencing is normal. Maybe tommorow it will get better, I also feel sick to my stomach when I think of eating certain things and I don't feel hungry at all, I hope this nauseous feeling is normal! I think the not being hungry part is.
Good luck to you, I hope it gets better! Have you noticed a change from day to day or is the pain just staying the same?

In maintenance... now I'm yo-yoing up and down 10 lbs or so. I'm trying to find out how to stay at a set weight, it's rough.
