Default 4 days postop: Feeling nausea constantly/burping hurts

Hello everyone!
Well I am 4 1/2 days post op now. I am having the problem of being nauseated and not wanting anything, especially protein drinks. Yuck! I can barely get 4 oz. of them in and I feel so sick. I can only eat about 1 oz of food (liquid diet, so cream of wheat and such) and I get so full and sick. Has anybody else had this problem? Does it go away?

Another problem I am having is that burping is hurting like heck!! It is the worst feeling of pain yet about this surgery, I absolutely hate it. Is this a common thing? Is this going to last forever? Also, my insides sound so noisy!
Any help would be appreciated!

Tiffany

In maintenance... now I'm yo-yoing up and down 10 lbs or so. I'm trying to find out how to stay at a set weight, it's rough.

Default eating

i see you're in arizona. where are here in san diego our doctor didn't allow protein drinks until like ten days. same with cream of wheat. at 4 1/2 days i believe all we were having was clear liquids, jello and that's about it.
good luck

Tiffany,
That is what I was going to say, was to go back just on clear liquids for a few more days. I had open, but was on just clear liquids for 7 days. Then I added just some cream soups for this last week. Just had my first soft foods yesterday. having it done Lap might be a little different, but if you're having problems, go back to the beginning.

Default Nausea, gas!!

Tiffany,

Sounds just like i felt, just a little later out than you. In the beginning, I forgot everyone told me about Gas-X. It really helped. And going back to liquids and soups. The nausea eventually was so bad though, I finally called the doctor (who was upset I hadn't called sooner ) but I just thought it was normal and would go away. They put me on a couple more meds (Aciphex & Reglan) and I have felt great since. Good luck and when in doubt, call your doctor!

Aciphex & Reglan and gas x. All life savers. I still get nausiated on occasions and it usually because I forgot to take my prevacid.

You should call you doctor and go back on liquids as well.

let us know what happens.

As far as burps. Yes they hurt. But yiccups that last for hours are very painful as well. I had then right after the surgery and still get them almost nightly. At least now that don't hurt.

Sounds pretty much like I felt after wls. The burping will eventually get better. Your body can't tolerate much gas anymore. The rumblings are also weird at first but this too shall pass. I couldn't eat even as much as you are getting down. Call the doc and let him know what's up. Concentrate on your liquids that is the most important thing-stay hydrated! Let us know how you are doing.

Default Feeling better

Oh thank you for all the advice! I called my doc and he said that the burping part is normal and will go away, and the nasea is too. He said if it gets worse he will give me a presciption. But it actually has gotten better. I only get naseated after drinking a protein drink now, and I got in quite a bit of fluids yesterday, but I can only stomach eating yogurt and cream soup now. So I am doing better. Thanks everyone! I just can't wait to start the pureed phase next wednesday.

the nausea thing for me was great at first and then came back. the diet plan from my doctor is drastically different from most of the posters here. never been told to drink protein drinks, can have soft foods after 4 days. water gives me nausea, most times, something you deal with.

The prevacid works for me. But I have double the normal acid production in my stomach than most people. So my acid level may be causing my nausea were yours may be caused by something else.
