Unhappy Complications!

To All,

My wife Melissa had Gastric Bypass surgery on 6-21-05.
Everything was going great, then at about 6:30 AM Thursday morning
she was walking and she had terrible pain. I was at work, and the doctor
called me and told me my wife took a turn for the worst....
She went back into surgery and they had to open her up, her old stomach
had a bad leak because the new opening at the bottom was to small.
She was on a ventilator all day yesterday, and got off it about 10:00PM
last night. Today at about 5:30 PM she talked for the first time, she thought she was going to die yesterday. She's in a lot of pain, and has two drain tubes coming out of her old stomach that will be attached for six weeks. She can't have any fluids or ice until next Tuesday. I'm scared that she'll get an infection. She works at the hospital that did the procedure, so a lot of her co-workers have been coming by, but she has asked not to have any visitors right now (except family) because it's to much for her. I was scheduled for surgery July 5th, but I can't go through with it now.
She's still in the IC unit. I ask that you all pray for my one & only.

Thanks,

Jeff

Jeff,
I can understand why you would decide against the surgery for yourself. I will keep your wife in my thoughts and prayers. In case this thread ends up near the bottom of the page or on the next page, feel free to email me. I would like to know of Melissa's progress. Once she gets past this turn, things should get better. I hope they do. If you decide, at a later date, to get the surgery, let me know. I will pray for you before, during, and after. Take care and God bless!

Steph

Default Complications

Thanks for your prayers! The more the merrier, she still in the ICU, I'm going back to the hospital now. She ran a fever all night, 101.4, I'm hoping it drops today. All your prayers will help!

Thanks Again,

Jeff

Jeff you and your wife are in my thoughts and prayers. Such a tragic thing, but it sounds like they got it diagnosed and caught it in time. Keep the faith.
*Hugs*

Jeff - I just got home from the hospital on Wednesday myself. I will be keeping Melissa and you held up in prayer. Keep the faith. She's in good hands with the doctors.

Blessings to you,
Yvonne

wow I am a little more scared - after reading all the problems - i just thought sinc it has been around for quite awhile and become so popular for a few years that the complications would be less and less - so I guess I am wondering what causes the complications??? Bad Dr. or did the patient do something slightly or majorly off from the directions???

because i have a friend that aside from throwing up and a little pain she barly followed the rules and had no complications....which leads me to think Bad Dr.....

Thanks for any info as I am a little - a LOT more scared now....
thank you
