I slept on the couch after surgery, because my bedroom was upstairs. I used pillows to support my back in a semi-upright position. When I could finally get up the stairs, I did the same thing in bed. By then I could get up by supporting myslef on one elbow and rolling out of bed. (I had gone thru a similar surgery when I had my hysterectomy 6 years ago...hence the open RNY in March...so I had had practice ;-)) Eventually, I did away with the back support and slept flat. It was a progressive thing.
