Default Hurting bad, four days post op

Don't even know where to start. I had a lot of scar tissue ( I was born with my intestines outside my body) and a think abdominal wall. Dr. Callery had to do a lot of pulling and cutting. I don't know if I am this uncomfortable because of that or just the normal stuff. Can you tell me about the following and anything you did to make it feel better?
1. I feel like the scar is healing shorter than it should. I feel like I have to stretch it out each time I stand up, or walk hunched over. Does this loosen up?
2. I have a train rumbling around in my intestines, but they don't seem to find the way out!! On top of that I can't burp, it hurts to much.
3. I keep getting the hiccups!! What the he.... Like I need this now.
I hear this is hell week and what a week it has been. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Hurting,

I had all the same problems post op. 1. I had to stretch after sitting all the time. It did feel short or something.

2. that train won't come to the station for a while. You just had major surgery and it will take awhile for things to calm down.

3. I am so so so sorry about the hiccups. I started my hiccups 1 days post op. I was so freacked about having them because they hurt so bad. I still get them at night if I eat something like crackers to fast.

Sounds like all normal stuff. Hang in there!!!! Everyday will get easier. Hell week it is. But you will experience heaven as well soon. My hell week lasted about two weeks. Just take it slow and easy. Sip water, walk, rest and repeat. a quote from my many friends on the board.

Tatiana,

Welcome to the other side. The first week is definitely the worst. I had an open incision also, and at the top was all bruised and really swollen. I kept taking the liquid vicoden the first few days home, just rested, sipped, and moved around as much as I could. I didn't have a problem with burping or hiccops, but nobody told me how bad coughing would hurt.

Hang in there, it will get better.

Default Tatiana,

It will get better I promise. The advice given is good. If you still have concerns, call Dr. C.

Sounds all normal to me. You will be able to stand straighter as the days go by.....intestines rumbling will get better and hiccups....I still get them a lot more than pre-op, but it is when I eat too much...go figure.

Hang in there and welcome to the other side.

i sure wish there was something I could do to ease your discomfort. If things don't seem right to you call the doc, but I had everything you are describing. I still get hiccups quite often, but they are awful with a sore belly. Walk as much as you can tolerate. I know it's not easy at first but it will help. In a couple months this time will be a distant memory and things will be so much better. I'm praying for a speedy recovery for you.

Thank you for all the feed back. I was online earlier and just didn't feel like typing. It helps to hear that others went through the same things. I will survive this. Damn, I just wish it didn't hurt so much. Yeah for Lortab!!! I think part of what is making this worse is that I am used to working two jobs, about 65 hours a week and now I see a lot of movies. I have walked about 5 houses down the block- maybe will try for 6 today.

Hey, I am a side sleeper. When I can I do this again? I think that would help a lot. Is it just when I can tolerate the pain?

Thanks again. It really helps having you guys around.- Tanya

Try using a pillow under your side (tummy area) it'll kind of prop up your belly and make laying on your side a little more comfy. I did this even in the hospital. Try putting another pillow against your back for extra support. You'll just have to see if it is comfy for you. So much of the wls process is trial and error. We are all so different! What works for some doesn't work for others. I hope you are feeling better. Way to go with the walking! keep it up!
