Default 5 days post op questions????

Hello all, wells its my 5th day post op and had a few questions. I have been waking up nauseated not sure on the spelling sorry. Once I start drinking something it hurts for a bit then goes away what is that does anyone know? My other thing is that I'm craving salty things????? I'm getting all my fluids in o.k. just the morning can be rough and the gases too. When will the gases go away? Other than that I'm o.k. Talk to you all later. Thanks for the help

I had nausea for about a week, but my doctor gave me a prescription for Zofran. I would call your doctor or PA and ask about that. I usually felt "off" in the morning. It took a few weeks to go away. But I have to say, for the first 4 months I had "off" mornings on and off. I've learned that, for me, the best thing to do is have a cup of tea or two first and then have something to eat. I can't speak to the gas because I never had it after I left the hospital.

I still have issues with the nausea, even with meds. I recommend that you call the doc. She told me stuff could still be swollen and bruised and that is why a person has it. I know alot of GBS patients that have had problems with it. It does get better so hang in there!

For the salty, try chicken broth. You get the salty, plus the fluid and the warmness of it is nicer on your new pouch. In the beginning it feels that way going down but it gets better. Is the water really cold? Your pouch may not like that much so you may want to go warm or at least lukewarm. Goodluck!

First of all Congrats you are a loser!!!! Well the advise of Chicken broth is a good one for the salty. As for the gas try some gasX. The pain should be gone by the end of the week. Everyone is different. I used the gasX 3X a day. Remember to sip, sip, sip and walk, walk, walk and rest rest rest!!!

Early out, I had a craving for pickles. I can't tell you how many times I put my finger in the vinegar and licked it! lol

Morning were a bit tough on me too. Even now, the first thing I put in my mouth is a protein drink. I'm not interested in food.

Have you tried drinking room temperature or warmer drinks. I lived on peppermint tea for the first couple of months.

Do you notice if your stomach is more upset when drinking very cold drinks?

I'm over five weeks out and I still don't/can't drink 'ice' cold drinks.....I prefer it at room temperature.

What foods/fluids are you allowed right now? Every doctor is different, some people are pretty much allowed to eat anything they can keep down from almost day one while others are on a more restricted, well-defined 'progression' diet (fluids- then puree- then mushy, etc.).
