mouth sores
I have been getting little sores in my mouth. That sounds gross, I know, but I wonder if any one else has had this problem.
Yhey come and go and they are not really soars it is more like swollen tissue on the roof of my mouth.
I have also noticed that I have a dry mouth alot of the time and try to keep a water bottle with me at all time.
The only thing I can think of is that I stopped taking aciphex daily for my acid reflux and now only take retinide (sp) as needed.
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

I have not experienced sore but have experienced dry mouth and dehydration. It is not a fun experience but always drink liquids! When was your surgery?
The problems i am having now relate to the exit of the pouch narrowing. I have had 4 scopes with dilitations - those aren't fun but it is better than having pain when eating. The first time the exit became as small as the circumferance of a pencil and i could not keep anything down . Now things are getting better!

I had something called geographic tounge after the surgery, my doc said it was completely normal. I guess it is called geographic toung because your tounge looks like a map, they were not really sores butlittle patches of raised areas. The doc says that it was from DRYMOUTH, so keep hydrated and the lack of Vit C. He told me it would go away, and it did. I guess the best I could offer is up the H20 and chew an extra vit C.......good luck!

Low B 12 and folic acid can cause sores in the mouth as well as some other vitamin deficiencies. Make sure you are taking these vits...and a good B complex.

My daughter has a geographical tongue, never heard of it going away, this causes her to get the coxsackie virus a few times in her life, that is very painful, where the "map" makes road map blisters around her teeth and gums. I wouldn't bet that is what you had. Fissures are caused from dehydration, and I too have the swelling of the tongue, or it feels like it. Feels cracked and dry as if I ate a bag of sunflower seeds. I notice that is much better when I am hydrating myself well.
Rain, zantac(ranitadine) is okay on a PRN (as needed) basis, if you don't have an ulcer. I have an ulcer, and I don't feel it, but if I don't take my aciphex on a regular basis, the symptoms come back. Zantac was the in thing at all the hospitals awhile back. I used to run across the boarder to get mine. Aciphex is expensive, and I didn't know because John always got the meds from pharmacy. I don't think your change in meds caused the problem. Increase your fluid intake, more than a sip or two, get hydrated. The roof of my mouth prisoners my tongue in my sleep, and when I cry it is worse.
Since Tracie is here, I wanna ask ya something, I have tingling and itching in my left hand, digits 4 and 5 are numb, and my palm itches. I just started noticing that I am having pain when I flex my biceps. I just thought it might be a nerve thing, but then I remembered you saying something about a vitamin deficiency. What would be causing this? I take a prenatal and a B-12. My labs are good but beta carotene.

Traci,
Did you have your B1 (thiamine) checked with your other labs? I know that that is what caused most, if not all, of my nerve issues. I now take B1 100mg and B complex 100 every day. They are water soluble, so really can't OD. Also, sometimes even if the B12 shows within normal range, it isn't high enough for us. I guess the US has one of the lowest lab value standards for B12 and we can supposedly have almost double the high end level and be in great shape. I actually take mine 3 x week...and could probably take it more since I dropped back into the 800 range...I feel best in the 1100 plus range.
Hope some of this info helps...

I had my labs done a long time ago and my pcp said they were normal. Kelly wanted to get a copy though, because she says she looks for other stuff. Don't know if she ever got them.
I get my next set of labs next month before my 6 month check up. Will that be soon enough?
I am really bad about my vitamins. I take a daily occasionally, my b-12 weekly, biotin almost daily and thats about it. Naughty, I know.
The truth be told, I think the swelling may be chemical related. I have never been much of a diet beverave drinker, but recently I have been and I think some of them are acidy, like the fruit flavored ones and such.
I pretty much stick to water, but the occasional treat may be the culprit.

Quick FYI, if you chew Vitamin C or multivitamins, you should brush your teeth right away. Apparently the acid in C and the vitamins can damage your teeth.

I don't like orange juice, but I do love pineapple juice, and yes my tongue feels the same when I eat too much pineapple. I have been drinking alot of mango stuff though, and when I was a kid, if I had citrus, my jewelery would tarnish my fingers, even my expensive white gold. That could be a pH balance thing.
Thanks Tracie, I keep my B-12 at hand in the car, and I take it at least 3 times a week. I was feeling pretty puny last week and took two at one time. I think my thiamine was on the low side of normal, I will have to check though. I think all my labs are in San Diego. I will just try and add some of that. I don't like this feeling, and it is getting worse. Last night I had trouble spiking ALL of my IV bags because of it.

I too have had severl dialations, and though they are tough because of the swallowing we endure, they are a life savior.
