Question Best antibiotic post op?

I wonder if anyone can advise please? I am 4 months post op and doing nicely. However,I am prone to ear infections and neither my Dr or ear specialist has any experience of RNY patients. Is there any antibiotic to be careful not to take?
Is there any antibiotic that we absorb better than another?
Also wondering about the wisdom of being on Zoton(stomach protector)permanently?I have been advised to stay on them for 6 mths post op but a friend who is 3 years post op is still taking them-she just presumed she was to stay on them.
Hope someone will be along who can answer these questions
Thanks!

Hi Sue, in regards to antibiotics there really aren't any we can't have. Meds that are time released shouldn't be taken but off the top of my head I can't think of any that are time released. You may want to see if the antibiotics come in liquid form.

The stomach protector? Many are on them for 6 months, some longer. Mine personally only had me on for 6 weeks. So it really is physician's choice. If there is concern for ulcers he will put his patients on 2 or 3 different ones.

Hope this helps, Sue.

I'm so sorry to hear about your sister, Sue. Glad to hear that she is getting better though. Yes, it most certainly does put life in perspective.

Don't ever worry about "bothering me". I really don't mind the questions. I haven't been around much myself. I'm working extra hours at work (picking up shifts on the bariatric unit). Plus I've been dealing with some kind of upper abdominal pain. So far 2 tests down. First one showed a dialated common bile duct despite the fact my gallbladder came out in June. My surgeon suspects gallstones still in that duct. This last test should tell him exactly what is going on. Then I guess we discuss plan of treatment. The pain is intense but thankfully not often. So I'm dealing with it just fine.

So anyway don't ever worry about sending questions on to me, ok?
