Default What is "Normal" Post-op GBS

OK...I have a few issues I wanted to see if they were shared, or at least known by multiple people...

1. Everytime I drink anything...my stomach makes the weirdest gurgling noises...Is this normal?

2. I will spike a super low grade fever about once a day...highest has been 99.5. Normally if I lie down and take it easy, it goes away.

3. I have diarreah like stools...Have had 3 since my Surgery on Wed. and just not sure if that is normal.

4. I have at times some really nasty downward pressure above my belly button. I don't know if I would call this "painful"...more like uncomfortable.

Other than those few things I am experiencing what I have read and observed to be normal. I can only sleep on the couch and not in my nice expensive Tempurpedic adjustable bed...I can not sit upright for too long with getting achy...but I make sure to get up and walk around every 30 minutes or so as the doctor ordered.

Let me know you previous WLSers. I just want to make sure I am not having issues.

These all sound perfectly normal so soon post-operatively.. the first week has been nicknamed "Hell Week" and for good reason, lol.

Just make sure you're getting plenty of rest, lots of sips, and walk as much as you can.. and welcome to the losers bench!

Sounds a lot like everything I am experiencing...

I also have pain on my lower left side when I try to take a deep, deep, breath... Do you feel that as well?

All kinds of weird stuff happens the first few weeks. I burped every time I swallowed something. That went away after a month or so. Many people have bowel issues postop. Mine resolved pretty quickly. I took Immodium chewables for the diarrhea. Don't take too many or you'll end up the other way. I had mystery headaches that eventually stopped.

I don't know about the fever. 99.5 would be raging hot for me, I run in the 97s. I ended up with a wound infection postop and never got a fever. Were you given any postop instructions on fevers?

Normal, normal, normal and normal.

Given your surgery date, what you are feeling is totally expected.

Lots of good luck on your journey!! How exciting!

OK...I have a few issues I wanted to see if they were shared, or at least known by multiple people...

1. Everytime I drink anything...my stomach makes the weirdest gurgling noises...Is this normal? Yep...even now my stomach can sound like a gurgling brook when I first eat. Just think of it as ombience...nice and relaxing.

2. I will spike a super low grade fever about once a day...highest has been 99.5. Normally if I lie down and take it easy, it goes away. Wouldn't hurt to double-check with you surgeon regarding the low-grade fever. Could be normal...but I personally would call the surgeons office and make sure.

3. I have diarreah like stools...Have had 3 since my Surgery on Wed. and just not sure if that is normal. Ditto to my experience...I just assumed it was due to maybe them giving me an antibiotic as a precautionary measure...my stomach and antibiotics tend to have that reaction.

4. I have at times some really nasty downward pressure above my belly button. I don't know if I would call this "painful"...more like uncomfortable. I think having weird feelings (pressure, gurgles) are just par for the course this early post-op. Now it you were mentioning PAIN...that's different!

Well...good luck on your recovery...and when you hit a wall (emotions-wise) just know that this too shall pass!
