Default Almost 6 months out and frustrated!!

Hello all....I am almost 6 months out and have only lost 50lbs!!! I know 50 lbs is alot of weight but not for RNY???? Is it? I am really frustrated. Nothing makes me sick...well within reason...I can eat almost anything...in moderation. I can have a bite of dessert if I want. Nothing seems to make me ill!! I have had no problems at all except SSSSLLLOOOWWW weight loss. Is it normal or do I need to step it up?
Thanks

Deanna,

Don't stress!! Keep in mind that a lot of the 'higher' weight loss numbers you are seeing from people in a 6 month period, also, had a lot more weight to lose in that period of time. Take a look at your weight loss! You've lost 50lbs in 6 months and are over 50% to your total goal!! That's absolutely amazing! Be proud of yourself and keep up your amazing weightloss!!

Default I agree!!!

You didn't have that much to lose... if you lose as much as the heavier people you'll be gone...wasted away!!! Everyone would be like...where did she go...we can't find her!!! You are doing AWESOME...be proud of yourself...I know I am proud of you!!!

Deanna, I think your weight loss is great - congrats! I know you're comparing your loss to others' and thinking that you should have lost more, but your rate works out to 100 pounds in a year - lower than your goal! Most people take at least a year to reach goal, so you're doing really well. Your starting weight was relatively low, so you wouldn't want to lose 100 pounds in six months like people with a higher starting weight, anyway, or you might go down too far.

If you think you could be losing more fat faster than you are already, ask yourself a few questions: Are you exercising enough? Are you drinking enough water? Are you following your surgeon's guidelines for eating for your stage post-op? If the answer to all of these is "yes", then there isn't anything for you to do to "step it up". If the answer to any one is "no", then you may want to talk to your surgeon or local support group about it and try to do more in that area.

Deanna,

Just alongside you!
Started at 240, estimated goal 140
9 ½ months out – 60 pounds lost
My RNY procedure was “Capella”, whereby the anastemosis (opening) is wider than the standard US practice.
This allows a greater variety of food from the earliest days – I was eating chicken and mashed potatoes in the hospital within 72 hours of surgery! (See my threads under “Vim’s Umbrella” – link in my signature).
Our skin has a better opportunity of recovering, our social adaptation is slower and more gradual, but just as effective. We have more privileges earlier and a greater sense of social well-being for integration.
The “less” we have to lose, the “harder” it seems – but 100 pounds off a person reasonably large is very different from 100 pounds off a person super morbidly obese.
Chin up, take a deep breath and treasure each day! Ultimately, if we stick to what we desire or believe in, we’ll reach our goals!
Cheers!
Vim
