Smile PCOS post op GBS

Hi all,

I suffer from PCOS and have done since i was 17, Im about to turn 24 and my hubby (whos 31) and i have been trying to get pregnant for 4 years i have been pregnant twice and both were misscariges. I stopped ovulating for a year before surgery (actually it was my main reason to have GBS) and since surgery i have had a menstral cycle so my question is does anyone think its going to be possible to reduce the effects of PCOS post op and become pregnant?

I know im young but it really means alot to me to become pregnant, so any success stories would be lovely.

Thanks

Vicci xxx

Default No personal experience but....

Hi Vicci,

It's so funny that I clicked on this thread this morning cause I just read a whole article last night in a Woman's Day magazine about a lady that had PCOS. (I usually don't read Woman's Day and I rarely read a whole article out of any magazine...so freaky that I did both and then read your post...anyhoo...) The lady in the article said that she started exercising and losing weight and that was what finally helped her get pregnant. She didn't have wls, but I would think that no matter how you did it, getting healthy would be one of the keys to getting pregnant with PCOS. She also wrote about a procedure that she had done to reduce the male hormones that her body produced and to help her ovulate more regularly. I can't remember the name of the procedure...will try to remember to look when I get home and let you know...anyway, she was able to have 2 healthy full-term pregnancies after all of that. (She also was diagnosed with diabetes during the whole process and she that was part of what really motivated her to get healthy.) Anyway, I know this not personal experience but I thought I would share it with you and hopefully it will be an encouragement for you. Hopefully getting healthy will be the key for you, too! Nothing compares to being a mommy...on so many levels! Best of luck to you!

Amy~

I too have PCOS and this was a big factor in why I choose to have this surgery. My hubby and I had tried so many methods to get pregnant and nothing was making me ovulate. Anyway my surgeon said that everything from my PCOS to my sleep apnea and HTN can be pulled back to one major factor, that being insulin resistance. This surgery in most cases erases this problem leaving many women "fertile myrtles" Which is why I had to sign a millon waivers to use birth control methods and promise to try not to get pregnant until at least 12 monthes out.

Thanks ladies,

Its really nice to hear some positive thoughts! Its quite depressing when you see that negative test every month. I was also told not to try after surgery for 12 months but i honestly thought that my surgeon said it to everyone but only meant it when dealing with women who were fertile already!!

As long as i know it is possible i'll be happy!

Thanks again

Vicci xx

I have PCOS andn already I can see some of symptoms decrease like the brutal facial hair and I have just had the surgery. I know alot about PCOS and the best thing you and do for the symptoms is weight loss. I've personaly have heard TONS of success stories about weight loss and PCOS and the ability to get pregnant and start reg. mens. I think that you'll have a success story in no time with dealing with the PCOS.

Yeah my doctor could already see such an improvement in my fasting blood sugars only 2 days after surgery. Since then I've actually started a cycle! I am just amazed. For some a period would be an unpleasant thing but for me it makes me feel normal.

I have PCOS too! My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for almost 9 years...*sigh*
I saw that one of you already had a cycle and you only had your surgery a week and a half ago?!? WOW! I had mine 3 weeks ago and have yet to see anything like that...crazy how much I'm looking forward to getting my hormones in check and actually have a monthly cycle. UGH I dread it at the same time though...lol
Although we want children I made him promise to wear protection for this first year - year and a half...I want to lose at LEAST most of my weight if not all and be able to carry our baby on a healthy frame and not a already dog tired, strained from the massive amount of weight it's already carrying frame...

Good luck Vicci!

Here's a link that is a good spot to read up on it if you want to know about PCOS. There's just too much info to post in one thread....
