Default Alcohol after WLS

I know this subject has been touched on several times, but I searched "alcohol" and most of the articles and such that were posted were dead links, so I thought I would bring it up in a new post.

I went to a wedding last weekend and had some champagne with the toast. I expected only to have a sip, but after sipping through each toast (there were about 7 of them!) I realized I had about 1/4 of a flute! Didn't feel any effects, though my pouch was very picky for the newxt few days (might also have to do with the food I couldn't keep down, first time I've gotten sick off of anything since the curgery!). So, I am feeling VERY guilty and wondering when it is ACTUALLY safe for me to consume alcohol. Obviously, everything in moderation, I don't plan to become an addict (though no one ever plans for such things) but I miss enjoying happy hour!

Yeah, I definitely don't plan on trying again any time soon! I shouldn't have tried it in the first place, but my need to feel "normal" put it in my hand. Big mistake! And it didn't help me feel normal. Still getting used to the public/social life after WLS.

I have had a few drinks. No carbonation, maybe thats what did not agree with you. I have had Vodka mixed with crystal light.

While my surgeon has OK'd alcohol (in limited amounts) after six months, I have had 1-2 ounces of wine a few times in the past couple of months, to celebrate particular events. It sure went to my head quickly! I discovered that I can't tolerate red wine at all -- even one ounce gives me hangover symptoms almost immediately. White is fine, but again, I am drinking only 2 ounces at most (I've measured).

I, too, think the bad reaction you had could probably have been the carbonation and sweetness of the champagne.

My surgeon and nut aren't any help, they feel that you shouldn't drink alcohol under any circumstances, even before WLS so they say I can never have it again. lol Wise advise, I am sure, but advice I am sure I won't follow! I think I am gonna mark January 22nd as my "No alcohol till" date. That will be 6 months!

My surgeon has said that I can have Alcohol after 6 months. Reason is that the pouch is still working on how much acid it expels, plus with so little to eat it goes straight to your head. But it is nice to know others were able in moderation to have small drinks without effects.

kelly + more than 3 coronas= carrying me home

it used to be like 6 plus shots... now, if i had a shot and like part of a corona, im hammered.. and i get emotional with tequila... i learned this the hard way.

just ladies, watch what you drink. i have amazing friends and a great bf who will take care of me.. you DO NOT know your limit and you tend to sober up VERYYYYYY quickly.
