What is it doing to the surrounding skin? My wound edges were very clean. Barely red, which went away quickly. However, the skin got really torn up from the bandages. The nurse would change the packing and bandage in the morning and I would change just the bandage at night. I am allergic to the glue in most bandages and tapes, so my skin was really a mess after a few days. It got to the point where it would crack and bleed. Even after it healed it was discolored for quite a while. It is still slightly discolored (purple).

Is that what is happening? Or do you mean the infection is affecting the skin? How large is the opening (length), by the way? Mine was quite small, an inch at first and then down to a quarter inch when I stopped the visiting nurses.

Well I have the irritation to the surrounding skin that you are talking about, but before the tape they noted directlyaround the wound, my skin was red and swollen, it looked like a pair of lips. The doctor said I had an infection also in the surrounding skin.

The length of my wound was about 1 1/2 inches, but it is getting a tiny bit smaller every day.

Did he call the infection in the surrounding skin cellulitis? That is probably why you are on that antibiotic. Watch that redness very carefully. If it spreads at all head right back to the doctor. I had a drug resistant skin infection a few years ago and ended up in the hospital for 6 days.

Was/is the skin painful? Cellulitis is very painful. Hot to the touch also.

My wound infection wasn't like that. The infection was all deep inside. I hope you are feeling better.

Yeah he called it cellulititis and the skin was really red and swollen and painful. So on top of the 2 inch deep wound that was and is thumping like a tooth ache I had the skin infection too. So far I can see a major difference in the pus and in the redness around it is almost completely gone. So I am guessing the Levoquin is working.

That's great that it's feeling better! Cellulitis is nasty, painful stuff. I've had it twice. Levaquin is one of the things in the "cocktail" I was given last time I got it. The first time the idiot ER doc didn't put me on something strong enough and it took over my lower leg (that was the time I was hospitalized) and I had to have it surgically opened and had IV antiobiotics for 6 days.

Sounds like you are well on the road to recovery.
