Default Portions...

I am two months out, and am starting to be able to eat more. I am worried perhaps too much more. I can eat a full bag of caesar salad (light), or a whole portion of stew and dumplings from the supermarket, or even 3 ryvitas and half a block of feta. I managed a piece of toast this morning, and wasn't full up after, and can also easily eat a couple of pieces of fruit. Is this abnormal?

I am not pushing myself to eat, or eating over the point of being full - quite the opposite. It is only really now I am getting any sort of hunger back at all, but I worry when I happily manage to eat a normal sized meal like that, that perhaps I am stretching my stomach unconciously.

Anyone?

As time goes by you'll be able to eat a little more. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. You'll have days where it seems you can eat a lot and other days where a tiny bit is too much.

Well, I just ate two slices of toast with peanut butter with no drama at all. This can't be normal after surgery on 21st July. I read everyone having problems with bread, and now I feel bad for eating what I consider to be a normal portion. I actually want to cry

Pinque,

I think you'll find that you might have a slightly different version of the RNY to the US people. I remember reading Vim&Vigor's post where she mentioned that (she had hers in Belgium). I know they're able to eat more at an early stage.

Do you have a nutritionalist to offer you guidance as this stage?

Do you have a diet sheet to follow?

I'm almost a year out but I wouldn't try eating two slices of toast in one go.

Early out, the US people are taught to focus on protein first. Carbs are good but they should be limited. My diet plan didn't include toasted bread (wholegrain) until I was 6 weeks out. And then it was limited to half a slice paired with an ounce of cheese or a yogurt etc.

But as I said - your RNY is different to ours.

Why don't you PM Vim&Vigor and ask what her diet plan was at 2 weeks out.

I've emailed the nutritionist and am waiting to hear back. Think I had a bit of a wobble. I am a hormonal nightmare!

Maybe they left you with a bigger pouch! I can eat bread and toast but only about 1/2 of a piece when I have along with 1/2 a egg on top. But on the other hand if you have lost 88 pounds in less then 2 months, that is great wieght loss. I am 4 months out and have lost 66 pounds. Ill be interested in knowing what your Dr says. Also, are you drinking with your food. I know this can wash the food out of our pouches and can make it so you can eat more. In my group they listed it as the number one cause of weight gain or lack of weight loss.

Hey there - I had lost some weight pre-surgery, but my loss has been good. I haven't been eating much up until now though!

I don't drink with my meals, no, but I assume then that meals like cereal with milk, or salads with such a high water content may pass through quicker - maybe that is why I have been hungry.

I'll let you know what the nutritionist says. x
