Default Working out

Ok so I am really frustrated with the working out thing. I want to start doing these things, its just that I'm having a hard time getting started. My family isnt much help because they have health problems and cant really do much. My best friend will only work out if we go running, and running is just NOT my thing. We do however, play tennis every now and then. I just cant seem to get started. I want to join the gym, but I think I would feel stupid with a lot of people around. I dont know, I guess I just keep thinking I need someone to workout with me, but I know I should be able to do it on my own. Any advice?

go get a gym membership... even though ur alone it's fun. you'll meet new friends that have the same goal. to be fit! i go to the gym alone too, and it doesn't bother me. i just amuse myself and enjoy the moment. i can't go to the gym yet, i just had my surgery 2 weeks ago. so i'm just chillin` around. but i can't wait to get back. just try it... you'll have fun even alone. good luck!

Default What about DDR?

Hi Holly,

Do you have a PS2 or Xbox? My son has several of the Dance Dance Revolution games and two dance pads (about a $40 investment, but less than a gym membership and you can do it at home). The games have a workout mode that you get to select your level and listen to music and (kinda) dance. It isn't really dancing but just moving your feet to keep up with the screen but it definitely works you out. I plan to start using it as a workout as soon as I am cleared by the doctor. Just a thought.

I hope you find something that fits into your lifestyle and that you can enjoy. If you can do that, you'll be set for life.

That game rules. I've been playing for well over 3 years and it's a great fun way to get in some exercise. I would totally recommend it to anyone, adult or teens. If you are going to purchase it, go with the PS2 versions. There is also a new one coming out called In the Groove which has a lot of cool songs. They are great!

Default Gym

I did have someone to join the gym with me and I found out real quickly that I did better on my own and enjoyed it more taht way. Grab your Ipod and start with something low impact. 20 minutes on the eliptical machine and then walk and then try some weights. Most gym memberships include a free sesion with a trainer to aquaint you with the equipment. Look into it. Spending money on it motivates me!!!

I agree... counting on other people to motivate you to workout or go to the gym will lead to disappointment when they back out or don't show. If you are worried about people at the gym, join a women't fitness center - that's how I started. Trust me, people are more worried about themselves than what you are doing. Put some headphones on and go for it!

DDR kicks butt!! It is so cool and addictive, too.....you really burn the calories and have fun. It allows me to do something fun with my kids, too.

I am almost 3 wks post op and just joined Curves. They have a really great program, especially if it has been a while since you have exercised (for me years). I go every day and work my tail off and I feel like a million bucks. Go check one out and see if that might be more your style.

What exactly do they do at Curves? We have one in my town but I've never been in there. What all do they have and what's it like? I heard you have to make an appointment...?
