Curves is the bomb! It's all woman, and the equipment is on a circuit. A big circle... you spend a small amount of time on each machine, and a tape tells you when to move to the next machine. Each machine works a specific muscle, and they are designed specifically for toning, not building muscle. It's great!

Hey Holly~
I was going to ask you where do you live because I was looking for a partner to work out with too but I see you live in Georgia. Well I live right now in Southern Cali but my boyfriend and I are moving in August to Georgia, where do you live? Maybe we could get together or something. My boyfriend and I are going to be in the Atlanta area so let me know. Good luck with everything.

Curves didn't do it for me. I'm too strong! It's a great work-out if you're just starting or have arthritic joints. The other gals keep you motivated and it's quite enjoyable. I do most of my stuff at home. I have a Bowflex, free weights, steps, weighted balls, and lots of video tapes. I like the weird workouts like bellydance, tae bo, hula dance, and the art of erotic dancing

I am seeking a gymn as well,

I want to join a gymn as well but I really dont' know which one I want to join. I went to the Curves in Lakeside, CA and it just looked so sad. There hours were only from 8am to 12 daily. I thought that was ridiculous. Anyway, I don't want to spend a lot of money on a gymn but really want to join one. I was thinking about joining Women's fitness World in El Cajon. Does anyone know of a cheap gymn in El Cajon Lakeside area. If you do know of one, could you share the amount of monthly dues you pay.

Holly, Barbara, and anyone else interested:

Barbara, check out another Curves at a different location or owend by a different owner. Mine is open M-F 5:15am - 8:00 pm & Sat. 8:00 am - 1:00 pm, closed Sunday. Mine also has all of the equipment, some don't.

Everyone else:

You make your initial appointment so the staff can take you on a tour of the facility, show you the equipment, and explain the primary principal of how their system works. Once you join they will weigh and tape you and do a bmi. The will take you around all the machines and show you how each one works. In between each machine is a recovery board that you do whatever aerobics you want. So the cycle is recovery board (rb), machine (m), and you do each one for 30 seconds then move to the next. So it looks like this: rb, m, rb, m, rb, m, rb, m, rb, m, rb, m, etc. you get the idea. You do each machine 2 times and by the time you are done you have had a 30 min. workout. I think it is an awesome program and as your fitness level increases the harder you work out. In encourage all of you to at least check it out and just see if it is something for you. I go everyday and work out.

Good luck to you all

It isn't really dancing but just moving your feet to keep up with the screen but it definitely works you out. I plan to start using it as a workout as soon as I am cleared by the doctor. Just a thought.

I hope you find something that fits into your lifestyle and that you can enjoy. If you can do that, you'll be set for life.

What a great idea!

Also I recommend joing a class at local college or rec center, that why you have an obligation to show up... that will motivate you big time! I too HATE gyms! I got a membership 3 months ago, I have been once! Good luck to ya!

The Y or Salvation Army might have gyms in your area too. I have a membership to the Joan Kroc Center in SD and it's a wonderful place. They have everything from swimming to ice skating, to rock wall climbing. It's pretty inexpensive for us too -- I think it's about $350 for our family of 4 for a year. People who live in East SD, La Mesa and Spring Valley areas can join for that price -- locals.

Hmm. It's a thought. I really like how much there is for the kids to do there, and I need to start working out now, before surgery. When could we meet?
