Default Pains in Gall Bladder Area - 5 mths after removal?

Hi Guys & Girls....

I've had a look around the web, but can't seem to find any info that fits with what's going on right at the moment.

My Lap RNY was 5 & 1/2 months ago & so far, so good - Doc took my gall bladder at the same time & I haven't had any specific side effects from the op - yeah, I've dumped several times & yeah, I usually have 3 or 4 fairly loose bowel movements in the mornings - I can live with all that.

Last night, I went to lie down in bed & sprang back up instantly! I lay on my right side to read & it felt just as though I'd been stung by a wasp on my right side! If anyone has had a wasp sting, you'll know how intense the pain is!

So, I leapt out of bed & checked the sheets... nothing - convinced that it was inside my nightie, I whipped it off - nothing - but by this time, the pain had gone.... strange.....

So I went to lie down again & felt another twinge in the same area... not quite as painful, but still there. It's just under my right armpit - in the same place as I used to get my gall bladder pains. It's quite tender when I touch the area.

This morning, I checked my side - no marks - a bit swollen - well, it's a bit fatter than the other side anyway! But several times today, if I stretch my right arm back too far, or if I twist to the right, the pain's there again - it's a VERY sharp pain that goes after about 20 seconds....
Actually, it doesn't sound too much of a problem, does it, when it's written down like this & I'm now wondering if I have a problem, or should I go see my GP, or someone?

I don't even know if my surgeon used staples when he took it out... I wondered if maybe a stray staple had dislodged?

Am I panicking for nothing? Oh, I feel so stupid!

I just thought I'd see if anyone else had experienced anything like this?

Julie.

I have to say that you should call your doctor in the morning and let him know what you are feeling. But, I really think you are fine. Sometimes after you have your gallbladder taken out you will have "ghost pain" in the same area that you had your pain prior to surgery. The symptoms are usually just like the pain you had prior to surgery, not usually different. Sometimes you can have these "ghost pains" for a year or so after surgery. I did, and I know a lot of people that also had them. Also, it could be simply due to scar tissue. If your losing weight and exercising and tightening up muscles etc, you could be just pulling some scar tissue. That's what I think anyway. Better to have a doctor's opinion when it comes to your health. Hope you feel better soon.--Lisa

Thanks Lisa.

Maybe I'm just panicking - I lived with gall bladder pains for over 4 years & found out that I have quite a high pain threshold!
I think that because I've forgotten all about the pains & have recovered well after my op, last night & today came as a bit of a shock.

I'll see how it is tomorrow & I'll have a look through the surgeons notes to see how he did the op in the first place.
(I have all the notes, because at the time of the op, I didn't have a GP!)

Thank you again - am off to bed now - let's hope it doesn't start again when I lay down
Julie
