Default Milk?

I was just wondering what the deal is with milk? I know some people become lactose intolerant but I seem to be able to handle milk just fine. I only drink skim and its a little too sweet tasting so I don't drink a lot at a time but my pouch doesn't seem to mind it. Is there another reason why we shouldn't be drinking milk...just curious.

I'm still trying to figure out if i'm truly tolerant or not... I can eat sugar free pudding (made with milk) but I can't eat sugar free fudgesicles or protein shakes with milk.

I guess if you can tolerate it alright then you should be fine.

Drinking too much milk can be the cause of weight loss stopping as you don't realise the calories you are taking in.

I tolerate milk really well, in fact better than pre op. I don't have any problems with anything dairy which is good as it is my main source of protein (can't eat meat as it makes me vomit).

as long as it doesn't bother you.. and as long as you account for it's calories (if you're a calorie counter- some here are not, while still being successful).. then there is no reason not to have milk as part of your balanced meal plans.

skim milk is part of my recommended plan, as long as I account for it.. and my tum has NO problems with it.

I drink 8 ounces of whole milk daily, per my nutritionist. I wasn't getting in enough calcium, vitamin D, OR fat (which your body needs, in limited amounts), so the glass of milk is just what I need.

My Drs plan includes drinking 8oz of Skim or 1% milk and eating 1 yougart a day. Its even in His 7 steps to a successful patient.

I don't have issues with milk (or cheese, yogurt, etc.), never did. I do buy Lactaid because DH has lactose issues, but I don't need it. I don't drink milk and try to buy protein powders that mix into water. I can't imagine drinking a glass of milk. I don't think I've had an entire glass of milk in over 25 years unless there were chocolate chip cookies or brownies involved, and I don't eat those anymore. I use milk with scrambled eggs, fish chowder (but I use non-fat powdered for that) and if I eat cereal (which isn't too often).

I say if you can tolerate milk....go for it!

I for one love milk...always have....but since my surgery it does not love me anymore. I've tried skim, lactose-free, dairy-ease, soy...all of them treat me the same way! Terrible diareaha and bad stomach cramps! Fortunately, cheese and yogurt do not bother me at all, so I am happy that I can still eat those things!
