I still get confused on what to eat.

You eat until you feel full, which is generally only 2-3 bites at this point. At the early stage, you'll have to try and eat 5-6 times a day. What does the VA suggest what you should eat? You're still in the first week post-op of eating by mouth. If you're going to experiment outside of the guidelines, chew well and eat slowly. Use baby spoons if needed to make it easier to judge portion sizes.

It is weird because I can eat a pudding cup or a yogurt in a sitting about 20+minutes. I get anxious because I am so afraid I am not going to lose. I am sure this is a (somewhat) normal feeling.
I can eat 6-8 ounces of tomato soup or a tbsp of peanut butter. So far, everything feels okay.
I put a call into the dietician, to double check. They gave me a list of foods high in protein and I am trying to follow that.
Thanks for the support!
Hope you are okay! Call or come by anytime.

Now when was the last time that you can only eat 1 pudding cup? It was like 2-3 servings in the same 20 minutes. Also, when the closer to liquid form a food gets, the easier it is to eat more. Over the next several months, you'll start to transition to whole foods and learn how to judge a portion size that's for you.

Tami,

What was some of the high protein foods the dietitian said you could eat? I am so glad we are talking about this b/c I really was beginning to freak out about how much I could eat. I really thought that I was eating too much in a single sitting. But I guess that I am right on target. So, when we start to eat more solid foods does that mean that we will be eating less or more? Thanks guys. Keep the good advice and encouragement coming.

In my experience with solids you can't eat as much as you can with soft or liquid foods (soup, yogurt, purreed veggies). Liquids leave you pouch a little quicker than solids. I can eat quite a bit of tomato soup but no where near as much meat or salad. I'm only speaking for me. As you know, we are all different! Good luck and don't forget this phase will be over soon!

I am so glad to know that what I am feeling is "normal" or at least I am not alone.
I am had a bit of chicken tonight, pureed. It was good. Still can't tell if I am full. But I am just eating a little bit at a time, just in case.
The dietician told me to eat high protein foods, eggs, cottage cheese, soups with milk, all non-fat/sugar free.
I started peanut butter and she told me to not eat it. Too many calories. Oh well.
I get so nervous that my pouch is too big. The dietician tod me to cut down on the soup, I was able to have 6-8 ounces at a time.
I think that as we progress to more solid foods our bodies will definitely give us the "full" feeling.
I HOPE!
Good luck. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know

No raw veggies until after 6 weeks! They need to be really cooked in the soft food stage . Yuck, I just hate really cooked veggies. Can't wait to have some raw veggies and some salad! Yummo! Thats just next week. Yippe!
