Default Post -op question for those who don't mind answering.

Hello, I browse a lot on this site and I have seen a couple of times where people talk about losing their hair after surgery. I am concerned about this. Not to sound vain but I have beautiful hair, I have grown out my relaxer and have gotten it to a good length and healthy and I don't want to start losing weight and looking good from the neck down and then my hair starts to fall out.

How many has this happened to? What are some of your experiances?
Thanks, My

Hello and welcome.

I am in the process of having mine fall off. I had long curly hair prior to surgery and about 2 months post op I cut 14 inches of it because I had hear of everyone loosing a great ammount of hair starting from 3 months up to a year post op. Right at 3 months mine starting falling off, and it's continuing, I assume I have a couple more months before this stops and then the regrowth will start.

The way I see it, it is a minor side effect, even if at times it is sad to see all that hair fall off, but well worth it when I see my body now that I have lost 140 lbs. I have 130 more to go, but already feel great, and I would not let the hair fallin off issue stop me from getting this surgery even if I end up bald at the end lol,, well I know that won't be the case, I still have plenty of hair on my head and I can style it so it is not notisable.

Don't let this one issue determine your decition, this is only temporary, some of those who are one year or more pos-op can asure you of it.

To help prevent hair loss get your daily protein is the most important. I haven't lost any hair. I use a protein based leave-in conditioner that I've been for 25 years or more. I get mine from my barber, but I'm sure a "woman's" brand is available. (This might do andy real good, but it makes me feel better).

Was your hair loss noticeable to others? I have fine hair, but a lot of it. My hair looks very thick. Is the hair loss mostly noticeable to you or do those that know you comment on it? I've finally grown out a short cut, I'd hate to have to cut it short again!

I am five months out from surgery, and I've just noticed my hair falling out two weeks ago. My hair is also fine, but I have a lot of it. So far, even though a lot has fallen out in two weeks, I can't tell a bit of difference. But every time I clean out the shower drain, there is a ton of hair there!
