Default more post op questions

Hello again everyone,

I had my post op follow up yesterday. It went well and I survived the removal of the drainage tube (holy sh&* that was weird and a little painful). I've lost 7 pounds (my husband lost 6 w/o surgery right along with me - lol) but they are concerned that I haven't had a BM since before surgery. Anyone have the same problem? I figured I started my liquid diet the day before surgery so I was already cleaned out and haven't had anything but liquid since, so where's the poop going to come from?

Another concern for me is that I was feeling better and in less pain every day, but now I am in more pain than before and taking the full about of pain meds. Did anyone else do this? I am still not feeling up to walking a whole lot except to go to and from the bathroom.

So how much walking and when/how did you start? I don't think I can make it out to the end of the driveway.

When is the fun going to start?

Tracy

Default Tracy,

First BM for me was five days post op and it was like, okay, who let open the flood gates. It was not comfortable and went on like that for two days.

More pain, I'd call the surgeon just to be on the safe side. Pain should not be getting worse.

We were instucted to walk every two hours while still in ICU. So in other words, right away. Walk - try walking further each time.

Give yourself two to three weeks, you should show much improvement.

Keep us posted!

Hope,
First off, welcome to the other side!!!! Congratulations! Be careful what you wish for....my first bm was 2 days out of the hospital and like Kim said, the flood gates opened for a couple of days!! Sorry for TMI. Walk a little bit every hour or two, laps around the yard etc. It will get easier. Best wishes and big hugs!

Call the doc on the pain! I had more pain after I got the tube out too. it was only bad for a couple of days and then I felt great. It is a very weird feeling! I couldn't go for about 2 weeks and just like th others it was non stop for several days. Congratulations!

I was the same as Amber. It seemed like when I walked, pain started building up at the tube site. It got better within a week or so and I kept walking.

Hey, I know its really important to walk. Even though it sucks you got to get up. I know Dr. Callery told me that if we don't our muscles start to atrophy and thats not good. You know I had a drain in too but they took it out at the hospital while I was there and it hurt like someone was ripping out my intestants. (Sorry not to be gross) So I feel your pain and I promise it will get better.
