Default My "op" story

So, I was so excited to be able to post in the "post-op" section, I thought I would start out with a little story:

As I am laying in my bed in the surgery holding room I got to meet my anesthesiologist. She goes through the routine of asking my what I am having done...yada yada yada. Then she says "Wait, you're having gastric bypass? Are you sure about this??" I'm like "WHAT??" She says "You don't look big enough for this surgery. Are you sure you want to go through with this?" I'm thinking "I'm laying in HOLDING and you're trying to talk me out of this??" But I say "Thank you, but I am 100% sure." I thought it was weird and not the best thing to say to someone awaiting surgery!! Oh! And then she LIED to me! She said "Take 5 deep breaths and you will go to sleep." So I count 1...2...3...4...5...5...5. So I think "Ok, not sleeping...how many does this take? Let's try six...zzzzzzz" lol it took 6 breaths, not 5!! hahaha

I know, she was mostly shocked because she didn' think I weigh enough, but I DEFINITELY know that I do! lol It's just weird to have someone try to talk you out of your surgery while you are waiting to be wheeled in!

I ran into some of that too. And it was all with people who didn't have a weight problem. I found that if they didn't change their minds they finally just shut up about it when I made the final decision. It has to be for you, so listen to your heart!

I finally broke down and told my mom that I am trying to have this surgery done. She was upset at first but now that she is seeing that there is a little more to it than just going to a doctor and saying that I want the surgery and then having it done, she is feeling much better about it.

skinny people think that you have to be on the jerry springer show being lifted out of your bed with a crane after cutting a hole in your house to get you out of bed for surgery. i weigh 450lbs now and even at my football weight i was 330lbs which is still to dam heavy. iguess i just want to feel what its like to be "normal" maybe because i have been big my whole life people think that this is who i really am but then again maybe there right

Wow Tom, that makes me feel a bit sad. I don't know any pro football players but yah, I would expect them to be big guys. It is almost as if you are cast into this roll of being a big guy for life. I never thought of it being like that for you..or anyone who needs to be large for their career/job.

Welcome home, Jen and welcome to the loser's side.

Yep, I think that discussion with the anesthesiologist was not only strange but pretty unprofessional. It just wouldn't have been something I would have appreciated and basicly it was none of her business.
