Hair Falling, falling and falling!!
Hi Everyone,
its been a while since I wrote. I was in a bad car accident on June 20,2008, near Rockville Md, I was trying to go to PA, my sister was driving and she hit a guardrail at 70mph, my 8yr old daughter suffered some stomach scars and they were afraid of internal bleeding, she spend 2 nights at Childrern's medical center in DC, thank God she didnt need surgery. My 3yr old son suffered a deep laceration right above his eye, he needed stiches. It was horrifying to see my daughter passed out and my son's whole face covered with blood when i looked back after the accident. I am still very shook up over it. I also bought my first house and moved into it 2 weeks ago. I am still in pain in my body due to the accident. But everyone is ok, the damage of my car was $20K, insurance will pay this week and then I have to buy a new car in the next 10 days, am on a rental right now.
Anyway, its been about 4 months since surgery and have lost 73lbs so far. My hair started falling out 10 days ago. its horrifying. I have always had thick hair and was always an asset for me, but now it comes off all the time, i just tie it to keep from seeing it fall off. what can i do? other then upping my protein and buying biotin? how long will hair fall off? till I am completly bald? I am taking the hair loss very badly. I still have 70lbs to go, and am afraid that i will have the body that i want, but will be hairless bald freak!!

Sasha,
I'm so glad you all got thru the car accident with no life threatening injuries. Time will heal those wounds. Congratulations on your new home, that is soooooo exciting.
The hair loss? well, it is a reality of our post-gastric bypass lifestyle. get a good cover for your bathroom drain, 'cause it will continue for awhile. I think mine stopped falling out at about a year out. Be glad you had a nice thick head of hair to begin with, you won't go bald, promise! Keep doing what you know is right...

Sasha, I'm sorry to hear about your accident but thankfully no one was seriously hurt.
In regards to the hair loss? There really isn't much you can do about it. Just keep making sure you are getting in your protein. Biotin might help but it also might not make a speck of difference.
Don't worry, you won't go bald. I didn't and I even started out with thin hair. I started losing my hair at 3 months postop. It pretty much stopped at about 9 months.
Just know that it will grow back. So try not to freak too much. The hair loss is temporary.

Yikes
Yes, so sorry to hear about your accident. I know what you mean - I can't imagine seeing my children in those states and keeping calm, I am sure I'd freak out... glad to see that it seems everyone will be okay though.
Regarding the hair loss, I also had a lot of hair, thick and curly and I still do - but, I lose hair everyday. It started about 4 months out and I'm almost at a year and it still comes out. Somehow though my hair seems to have stayed fairly thick so it must be growing at the same time it's falling out.
Good luck with finding a new car and getting back to normal.
Hugs,
Kimberly
