Default What to eat?

I know you've heard this before.... but...

I don't know what to eat and what not to eat??? I'll be 4 weeks out tomorrow and feel like I'm living on protein and saltines. The smell of chocolate protein is starting to get to me too. My doctors office says that on Sunday I can start on pureed foods - which do not sound appetizing to me and I've already started on some things like yogurt and the crackers.

I'm just trying to see what any of you were eating this early out? I hope I'm not ruining things by eating the Saltines but they kind of soothe my pouch. (I'm talking 1 or 2). I don't feel like I'm losing as fast as most people either which is frustrating and depressing.....

Thanks for your input!

Thumbs up hey lil lady!

You are losing just fine! Keep your eyes on your own plate, dont look at other peoples numbers, you are you and you are unique and different. Just keep on truckin'!

Here is a copy from Dr Callerys recommendations for his patients. Its available on the homepage of this website. Here ya go!

Weeks two through six after surgery
During this period, patients should eat puree and very soft foods. Try these ideas.

Peanut butter

Tofu (soy) mixed in with soup or vegetables

Baby shrimp
Very soft fish such as sole
Chicken or meat pate or spreads, liverwurst

Skim milk
Cottage cheese or other cheeses
Low fat yogurt
Eggs: try two white with one yolk

Protein Suppliments (these can be mixed with juice or soup or can ben blended with fruit)
Problend 55
ProComplex
Pure Protein (see below)
Zero Carb Isopure (Comes as powder or liquid)

At 4 weeks I was eating cottage cheese, refried beans, crisp bacon, and I think if I remember I was starting to try chicken, just chew chew chew,
Every surgeon has different guidlines, just follow them and listen to your body too. One of teh first real foods I had was pintos and cheese from taco bell and it was sooo good.

Hi Meaghan! You and I are almost the same. I started at close to the same weight as you and I had my surgery only one week before you. I am only 4 pounds lighter than you... so no worries about you being off-track. In another week, you'll probably be down a few more pounds. Don't stress over it (although I know that's easier said than done).

I was totally obsessed with food while I was still on the liquid diet, so I'm right there with you. I started with soup, cottage cheese and yogurt. I'm finding that now that I am allowed to try now things (within the rules) it's much easier. I just take tiny bites and chew, chew, chew. Some things work and some don't. Live and learn.

Just wanted you to know you're not alone. I'm looking forward to seeing other's responses to your post because it will help me too!

Best of luck to you! Hang in there!

Thumbs up Food

Mashed Potatoes and shrimp were my best friends. I also liked (still do) beans.

Also, as far as protein supplement, do you all have "Nectar" in your neck of the woods? It's more of a fruit juice flavor(s) that you mix with water. Good amount of protein and the taste is not too bad, especially when you're as sick of chocolate as I was!

Thank you guys! You are all so helpful.

Bridget - I didn't even see that list! Thanks for posting it for me...I guess I feel like I'm a slow loser because I lost 18 the first week home and then it's been a snail's pace since. Even though I'm sure most of the 18 was water. Thanks though!

Kim - I'd love to get together with you guys again... sure wish I lived closer to go out at night with you all!
