Default Birth Control Question ... ladies question

I saw my ob/gyn this week. We talked about birth control options. The pill isn't highly recommended due to absorption issues and reduced efficacy. I definitely want to leave my options open after a year so I didn't want a permanent, long-term options.

He suggested NuvaRing. Has anyone used this before? It makes me a little squeamish to think of a ring being inside for 3 weeks - putting it in and taking it out...ick!

What other options are y'all using?

After surgery, I had a terrible time with bleeding and my hemoglobin levels are way too low (8.5 when normal would be 12-16). If the levels drop below 8, I have to get a blood transfusion. So they changed my birth control pill prescription to Loestrin. However in the past couple of months they have found several cysts in me, so I can no longer be on Estrogen. What I didn't know was that estrogen can promote cyst growth.

Anyhow, 3 weeks ago I went to an IUD device called Mirena. It is supposed to completely stop my cycle in the next 90 days, is estrogen free and is good for something like 5 years. The first day on it was hard, very crampy and lots of nausea. But I don't even notice it is there now.

I use it now, and have no problems with it. I have had no side effects, and it is really easy to use once you get past the ick part you have. I say give it a try. You do not notice it, and it was simple to remove and put in.

Good Luck,
Sue
