Canned chili is my salvation. It has 19g of protein per serving--1/2 can! Just heat it in the microwave with a bunch of cheese melted on top. The cheese is protein, too. (Amusingly, the 'cheese' that has the best protein is Velveeta!)

I used to hate fish terribly, but here is a great recipe for baked Tilapia. Spray the pan and spray the fish with Pam. Lay the fillets in the pan, and place Tarragon sprigs on top of the fillets (best) or sprinkle the fillets with tarragon flakes. Bake at 350 for 15-20 mins till done. If you use sprigs, take them off and throw them away. The tarragon gives it a really nice flavor.

Good luck--I really get the not wanting to eat anything and having no desire to push it. But I'm (much to my chagrin) finding that I can eat way more than I should!

Default How to get enuf protein a day????

Hey Hawaiianese girl: The first few days I ate so many eggs, that I can't stand the thought of one any more.

Here's one: refried beans, ounce of cheese, blended salsa in three layers. Microwave until cheese melts. YUM!

Wal-Mart has frozen talapia (fish) that is garlic flavored (so it doesn't taste "fishy") - and it can be microwaved. Lots of protein. It comes in a box - has several servings in the box. I HATE tuna or any canned fish, so this was a relief - very high protein, low cal.

Also Frigo string cheese light. 60 cals, 8g protein.

There are some chips that are actually made from soy that have protein in them too.

I am running out of ideas - and would love to see a list of foods that are high in protein.

Not sure if anyone suggested this book to you but I bought two cookbooks before surgery and the one I use the most is called Before and After. I bought it on amazon but here is a link to the website.
Bariatric Eating - Protein, Vitamins, Gastric Bypass & Lap Band Info, Post-op Recipes, and Help
I don't know if you can tolerate protien shakes at all but I personally hate milk and hate plain protien shakes. The book has a recipe for a cookies and cream shake that is so good even my 11 year old asks for it.
1 scoop of vanilla protien powder
1/2 C water
mix these first then add
1 C of ice
2 sugar free oreos
1/2 Tsp Vanilla extract
1TBSP cool whip ( I use the fat free or the sugar free whichever one I have on hand)
Then pulse the blender until mixed but not pureed.

I swear this reminds me of the cookies and cream shake from Jack in the Box.
Hope this helps but if the protien shake recipe doesn't then maybe the cookbook will.

Lightbulb Any success from all these suggestions?

Have you been able to find and use some tools from the many suggestions here, so that you're able to take care of your body's needs for nutrients and protein post op? There have been A LOT, and I just want to give a big thumbs up to the TT family for sharing their wealth of knowledge from experience!
